Description

KURS MP-2 navigation and landing system

KURS MP-2 is an airborne navigation and landing system designed to work with VOR navigation beacons and with ILS or SP-50 type landing beacons. It receives and processes radio-navigation signals so the crew can determine bearing to a VOR station, follow a selected track, perform the pre-landing manoeuvre and monitor displacement from the runway localizer and glidepath. The system also receives marker-beacon signals and provides the corresponding visual and aural indications. It is a complete avionics set rather than a single-purpose electronic control unit.

The documented installation context is the Antonov An-26. KURS MP-2 is also documented on several other Soviet transport-aircraft types, but applicability must always be checked against the aircraft equipment list and modification status. The same system name may cover installation-specific wiring, control panels and indicator connections.

Two-channel architecture and operating modes

The equipment uses two identical, independently controlled half-sets. Either half-set can be selected for navigation or approach operation. In VOR mode the two channels may be tuned to one or two beacons, allowing the crew to obtain azimuth and course information from separate sources. In landing mode one half-set supplies the connected flight-director and indication circuits while the second can remain energized as a hot reserve. Course-channel and glidepath-channel redundancy is handled independently, so a failure in one channel does not require replacement of the entire set without diagnosis.

KURS MP-2 supplies signals for lateral position relative to the runway centreline or selected track, vertical displacement relative to the glidepath, magnetic bearing to the selected VOR beacon, passage over marker beacons and identification of operating VOR or ILS facilities. The signals are displayed through the connected course, flight and navigation instruments and can be passed to the aircraft flight-director system. This integration is why serviceability must be checked as a complete installed circuit rather than from the appearance of any individual block.

Radio channels and aircraft indications

The KRP-200P course receiver covers 108.00–117.95 MHz with 200 channels at 50 kHz spacing. It processes VOR signals and the localizer portion of ILS or SP-50. The GRP-20PM glidepath receiver covers 329.3–335.0 MHz with 20 channels at 300 kHz spacing. Its tuning is controlled together with the selected course-receiver frequency. The MRP-3PM marker receiver operates at 75 MHz and distinguishes the 3000, 1300 and 400 Hz marker modulation signals used for approach and route indication.

In the aircraft, course and glidepath deviation, readiness flags, bearing and marker information are distributed to connected indicators such as IKU-1A and to the applicable flight-director instruments. Control units and course selectors allow the two crew stations to tune and select the required navigation or landing mode. The commutation block also connects the course and glidepath channels to the “Privod” director-control system in the documented An-26 installation.

KURS MP-2 equipment composition

The documented system composition includes the BUP-3 semiconductor amplifier unit, IKU-1A course-angle indicator, SS/SR system selector, SK/SRK course selector, BU/UM control panels, PP power-switching block, K communication block, GRP-20PM glidepath receiver, UN-2P navigation unit, KRP-200P course receiver, MRP-3PM marker receiver, BSG readiness-signal unit and UBM electrical-balance and zero-control unit. The installation also uses a shock-mounted frame with a distribution box, a low-pass filter and VO-009M and VO-010 power dividers. The system is organized as two operating half-sets with common control and indication elements.

The actual commercial delivery set must be confirmed separately. A complete aircraft system, one half-set, a monoblock, a receiver or an individual control unit are different supply configurations. The documented KURS MP-2 installation uses two half-sets plus common control and distribution units. The quantity and designation of every supplied block must therefore be checked against the product passport, offer and aircraft equipment list.

Identification, inspection and ordering

Before ordering, identify whether the requirement is for the complete KURS MP-2 set, one half-set, the monoblock, a named receiver, an indicator or another component. Compare the full designation, data-plate markings, connector arrangement and aircraft documentation. Incoming inspection should cover the condition of housings, connectors, shock mounts and seals, followed by electrical and functional testing under the approved maintenance procedure. Tuning, balance adjustment and fault isolation require the applicable operating or repair documentation and suitable test equipment.

An enquiry should state the aircraft type, required component or complete set, quantity, condition, delivery composition and documentation requirements. Alternative written forms include KURS MP-2, KURS-MP-2, KURSMP-2 and the Cyrillic designation Курс МП-2. Other related equipment is listed in the Electronic Control Units category. Related products and cross-sells are provided for catalogue navigation and do not establish interchangeability.
