Gyro units and vertical gyros are aircraft instruments used to provide attitude reference, flight stabilization and navigation support in helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. They help determine aircraft position in pitch, roll and heading-related channels and are often connected with autopilot systems, flight directors, navigation equipment and attitude indication circuits.
In aviation maintenance, gyroscopic units are normally selected by part number, aircraft type, system application, electrical interface, signal output, mounting position and compatibility with the installed avionics or autopilot equipment.
