A-034-4-17AN is a pointer-type altitude indicator used as part of the A-037 radio altimeter system. The instrument is designed to indicate the true height of an aircraft above ground level during low-altitude flight operations within a measurement range from 0 to 300 meters.

In terms of design, operating principle, and technical characteristics, A-034-4-17AN is fully equivalent to the A-034-4-17 altitude indicator. The only functional difference is that A-034-4-17AN is manufactured as an export version and features an English-language scale and markings on the dial, making it suitable for international operators and export aircraft configurations.

The scale is graduated with variable resolution to ensure accurate indication at low altitudes: from 0 to 20 m with 1 m divisions, from 20 to 50 m with 2 m divisions, and from 50 to 300 m with 10 m divisions. A dedicated control sector from 13.3 to 16.5 m is marked on the scale. When the TEST button is pressed, the pointer is set to the control value of 15 ±1.5 m for functional verification.

A-034-4-17AN operates in conjunction with the A-037 radio altimeter, which includes a transmitter-receiver unit, antennas, power supply circuits, and protection devices.
