Radio Altimeter Set

The A-037 Version 4 is a complete airborne radio altimeter system designed to measure true helicopter flight altitude above land, water or uneven terrain. The system provides continuous radio-height information to the crew and connected onboard equipment. It is used in flight profiles where actual clearance below the aircraft is important: approach, landing, descent, hover, low-altitude flight and operation over water or rough terrain. Unlike barometric altitude, the A-037 system shows the height relative to the surface directly below the aircraft.
The Version 4 configuration includes the A-037-1G transceiver, A-034-4-17 height indicator, two A-037-2 antennas, GU4.137.080-01 mounting and harness set, and GU4.850.668-03 interconnecting cable. The A-037-1G transceiver generates, transmits, receives and processes the radio signal. The A-034-4-17 indicator provides analog pointer display and warning outputs in the cockpit. The antennas, harness and cable connect the system units into one working radio-altimeter set.
The A-037 Version 4 operates as a continuous-wave radar with frequency modulation. The transceiver sends a radio-frequency signal toward the surface below the helicopter and receives the reflected return. The system processes the reflected signal and calculates true height in real time across the operating range. The operating frequency range is 4.2–4.4 GHz. This measurement method is used because it gives direct altitude above the actual surface below the aircraft, including land, water and uneven terrain.
In the Version 4 set, cockpit altitude display is provided by the A-034-4-17 pointer indicator. The display range is 0–300 meters, which makes this configuration focused on low-altitude operation. The indicator gives the crew a direct analog view of current radio height and also supports height warning functions. When the aircraft descends below the preset height selected on the indicator, the system provides low-altitude warning output. This helps the crew react quickly during descent, landing or low-level flight.
The A-037 Version 4 provides visual and aural low-altitude warning when the aircraft descends below the preset value on the indicator. The system also provides failure warning through a red flag on the indicator. This warning appears when the radio altimeter malfunctions or loses usable radar return from the surface. For the crew, this is an important safety indication: if the red flag appears, the displayed radio altitude should not be relied on until the system is checked according to the aircraft documentation.
The A-037 Version 4 should be operated only under the applicable aircraft technical documentation. Since the system includes a transceiver, indicator, antennas, harnesses and cable assemblies, installation and troubleshooting must be treated as a complete set. A fault may be caused by the transceiver, indicator, antenna path, cable, connector, power supply or mounting condition. Accuracy, reliability, power requirements and acceptance limits should be confirmed by the manufacturer passport and operating manual for the supplied set.
For procurement, the system should be identified as A-037 Version 4 or A-037 Variant 4. It may also be described as the A-037 kit with A-037-1G transceiver and A-034-4-17 indicator. Alternative references such as A037-V4, A-037-4 or A-037-1G + A-034-4-17 kit can help clarify the request, but the included units should always be listed. Before supply, it is important to confirm completeness, condition of each unit, antenna availability, cable set, connector integrity and documentation.
