Radio Altimeter Set
The A-037 Version 10 is a complete radio altimeter set designed to measure true helicopter flight altitude above land, water or rugged terrain. The system provides the crew with continuous radio-height indication and supports low-altitude warning functions during descent, approach, landing, hover and other operating modes where actual clearance below the aircraft is important. Unlike barometric altitude, the A-037 measures height relative to the surface directly below the aircraft.
The A-037 Version 10 set includes the A-037-1V transceiver, A-034-4-22 height indicator, two A-037-2 antennas, GU4.137.080-01 mounting/wiring kit and GU4.850.668-03 interconnecting cable. The A-037-1V transceiver generates, transmits, receives and processes the radio signal. The A-034-4-22 indicator gives the cockpit pointer display and warning output. The antennas and cables complete the signal path between the aircraft structure, radio-altimeter electronics and cockpit indication.
The system operates as a continuous-wave radar with frequency modulation. The transceiver sends a radio-frequency signal toward the surface below the helicopter and receives the reflected return. The system then processes the reflected signal and calculates true height in real time. This radio-height information is sent to the indicator and warning circuits. The operating frequency range is 4.2–4.4 GHz, which is typical for this class of aircraft radio altimeters.
In the Version 10 configuration, the A-034-4-22 indicator provides analog pointer indication of current altitude. The scale gives the crew a direct visual reading of height above ground or water. The same indicator also participates in setting the low-height warning threshold. When the helicopter descends below the preset value, the system gives visual and audible warning. This allows the pilot to react quickly without constantly comparing the pointer position with the selected danger-height mark.
The A-037 Version 10 provides visual and audible low-altitude warning when the aircraft descends below the selected threshold on the indicator. It also provides fault indication through a red flag on the indicator scale. The flag appears when a malfunction is detected, when radar contact with the terrain is lost, or when the aircraft operates outside the valid indication range. For the crew, this is a direct sign that the displayed radio altitude should not be relied on until the system is checked.
The A-037 Version 10 should be operated only according to the applicable aircraft documentation and the radio altimeter technical requirements. The system includes electronic units, antennas, mounting elements and interconnecting cables, so installation and troubleshooting must be handled as a complete set. A fault may be caused by the transceiver, indicator, antenna path, wiring, power supply, connector condition or mounting issues. Reliability, electrical limits, accuracy and service conditions are defined by the manufacturer’s passport and confirmed test data.
For procurement, the system should be identified as A-037 Version 10 or as the A-037 kit with A-037-1V transceiver and A-034-4-22 indicator. Alternative references such as A-037 Variant 10, A037-V10 or A-037-10 can be used for clarification, but the included units should always be listed. Before supply or installation, it is important to confirm completeness, unit condition, passport availability, antenna condition, cable set, connector integrity and compatibility with the aircraft configuration.
