Aircraft Side Navigation Light
Description
BANO-45 is an aircraft side navigation light used to show the outline and direction of an aircraft at night, in reduced visibility and during taxiing. The red-filter execution is installed on the left side of the aircraft; the matching light on the right side uses a green filter. The unit belongs to the external signalling-light system and is supplied as a complete light fitting rather than as a bare lamp.

Purpose in the navigation-light system
The red and green side lights work together with the white tail light. Their colour and viewing sector allow an observer to determine the aircraft orientation and direction of movement. The BANO-45 designation is documented for Mi-8, Mi-2 and Mi-24 helicopters and for An-2 and Yak-18T aircraft. The installation position, filter colour and lamp execution depend on the aircraft variant, so the exact configuration must be checked against its illustrated parts catalogue, wiring diagram and approved maintenance documentation.
Construction and light source
The documented BANO-45 execution has a red glass filter on a metal mounting base. The assembly includes the filter, retaining rim, lamp holder, electrical cap and mounting plate. The light uses an SM-22 aircraft mirror lamp, also designated SM28-28. Three 3.5 mm mounting holes are located in the base. The colour of the required light, mounting orientation and lamp execution must be checked before replacement.
Electrical and operating data
The nominal supply voltage is 28 V and the lamp power is 28 W. The lamp base is B15s/17. The light is specified for U2 and T2 climatic versions and an ambient operating temperature from −60 to +60 °C. Overall dimensions are 95 × 40 × 80 mm. Product mass is no more than 0.11 kg; the published net mass is 0.107 kg.
Selection, inspection and ordering
Confirm the complete designation BANO-45, filter colour, SM-22/SM28-28 lamp, B15s/17 base, mounting pattern and electrical connection. Before installation, inspect the glass for cracks or clouding, the metal base for deformation or corrosion, and the lamp holder and cap for secure engagement.
