White Tail Navigation Light
Description
HS-39 is a white aircraft tail navigation light for the external lighting system. It marks the rear point of the aircraft and helps an observer determine its direction at night, during ground movement and in flight. The HS-39 is a complete light fitting with a housing, lamp holder, optical cover and electrical terminals; it is not an electronic tube.

Documented application
The HS-39 is documented in Mi-8T lighting equipment. In that installation the white tail light is mounted on the fairing at the end of the tail boom and works with the side navigation lights to show the aircraft outline. Other aircraft parts catalogues also list HS-39, but installation on a specific airframe must be confirmed by the applicable illustrated parts catalogue or maintenance documentation.
Construction and electrical data
The assembly consists of a painted metal housing, a two-contact lamp holder, a clear ribbed glass cover and a retaining ring. The glass is seated against the housing through sealing or insulating gaskets. The published characteristics specify 28 V nominal voltage, 10 W power, 80 lm nominal luminous flux and 2 cd luminous intensity. The specified lamp is SM28-10, also referenced as SM15, and the technical specification is TU 16.535.066-81.
Selection and inspection
When replacing the light, verify the designation HS-39, supply voltage, SM28-10/SM15 lamp execution, two-contact connection, retaining mechanism and mounting position. Do not infer interchangeability from a similar cylindrical body. Inspect the ribbed glass for cracks and clouding, check the metal parts and fasteners for corrosion or damage, and confirm that both electrical terminals and the lamp holder are secure.
