Electric Air Thermometer

The TV-19T is an aircraft electric air thermometer used for remote measurement of average air temperature inside helicopters and aircraft. It is installed where the crew needs a cockpit indication of the temperature in a passenger cabin, cargo compartment or heated internal zone. The system does not measure only one local point. It works with several remote temperature receivers placed in different areas, so the cockpit indicator shows a more representative average value of the controlled space.
The TV-19T system typically includes a cockpit indicator and three remote temperature receivers of the P-9T or P-9 type. The receivers are installed in different parts of the cabin or compartment and react to the surrounding air temperature. The indicator, installed on the instrument panel, converts the electrical resistance signal from the receivers into a temperature reading. This layout is useful for helicopters such as the Mi-8, where a single temperature sensor in one corner of the cabin would not give a reliable picture of the whole space.
The TV-19T works as part of an electrical resistance thermometer system. The P-9T / P-9 receivers change resistance as air temperature changes, and the indicator displays the corresponding temperature value. Since several receivers may be installed in different cabin areas, the system can show an averaged temperature rather than the reading from a single local spot. Correct installation of the receivers matters: they should not be placed directly near heaters, cold air streams, blocked areas, or surfaces that distort the real cabin air temperature.
The cockpit part of the TV-19T system is the indicating instrument, commonly referred to as the TV-1 indicator in the supplied set. It is installed on the crew instrument panel and gives a direct visual reading. The scale is arranged for aircraft use, with a wide pointer sweep and marked temperature divisions. This allows the crew to monitor cabin or compartment heating during flight and to evaluate whether the heating and ventilation system is working normally.
The TV-19T operates from the aircraft DC electrical network. The system is designed for aviation conditions, including vibration and temperature changes typical of helicopters and aircraft. On Mi-8 family helicopters, this is important because the temperature indication system works in the same environment as other onboard electrical equipment and cabin heating systems. During maintenance, technicians normally check the indicator, receiver wiring, sensor condition, scale response, power supply and correctness of indication.
When ordering or replacing the TV-19T, it is important to clarify whether the requirement is for the complete thermometer set, the cockpit indicator only, or separate P-9T / P-9 temperature receivers. The number and type of receivers should be confirmed by aircraft documentation. Before installation, the system should be checked by passport, completeness, condition of the indicator, receiver resistance values, wiring, connectors and compatibility with the aircraft temperature indication system.
