White Tail Navigation Light
Description
HS-62 is a white aircraft tail navigation light used in the external lighting system of Mi-8 / Mi-17 family helicopters and other aircraft where this designation is specified by the approved parts documentation. It marks the rear point of the aircraft and helps an observer determine its direction during flight and ground movement. HS-62 is a complete light fitting, not an electronic tube.

Function and location
The light is mounted at the rear of the airframe, typically on a tail or fin fairing according to the aircraft installation drawing. It uses a clear, colorless optical element because the tail navigation signal is white. Together with the left red and right green side lights, it forms the conventional navigation-light pattern used to show aircraft orientation.
Electrical and mechanical data
The published HS-62 data specifies a 28 V supply. Parts catalogues identify the SM28-24 lamp, while documented executions also use the SM28-40 lamp; the fitted lamp and power must therefore be checked for the particular unit. The lamp base is B15d/18. Published overall dimensions are 56 × 90 mm, mass is not more than 0.15 kg, and the stated operating temperature range is −60 to +60 °C. Referenced technical specifications are TU 16-535.063-81 and TU 16-535.067-81.
Selection and inspection
For a correct replacement, confirm the exact HS-62 designation, lamp execution, voltage, base, mounting geometry and connector arrangement against the helicopter documentation and the existing unit. Do not select a replacement by lens shape alone. Inspect the clear filter for cracks and clouding, the housing and fasteners for deformation or corrosion, and the contacts and lamp holder for secure connection.
