SLG-300
Cargo and Rescue Hoist System
Description
SLG-300 helicopter hoist system
The SLG-300 is an onboard helicopter hoist system designed for lifting and lowering cargo and people while the aircraft is in hover. It is used when landing is impossible, unsafe, or unnecessary: rescue operations, evacuation, delivery of equipment, work over water, forest areas, mountains, industrial sites, or confined landing zones. The system is built around a powered hoist, a rotating onboard boom, a control unit, and operator controls. In operation, the SLG-300 becomes part of the aircraft mission equipment, not just a separate lifting device attached near the door.

SLG-300 for rescue and loading operations
The main purpose of the SLG-300 is controlled vertical movement of a suspended load from the helicopter. The system can lift cargo and, when configured and approved for the specific aircraft, people as well. In rescue missions, it can be used to raise injured persons, rescuers, divers, or equipment to the helicopter without landing. In transport or utility work, it can lower loads to sites where the helicopter cannot touch down. Because the system works with suspended loads in hover, smooth control and predictable cable movement are critical for safety.
Installation of SLG-300 on Mi-8, Mi-17 and Ansat helicopters
The SLG-300 is associated with helicopters of the Mi-8 / Mi-17 family, including Mi-8AMT and Mi-8MTV-1 versions, and may also be used on Ansat helicopters depending on the aircraft configuration. The system is installed near the sliding door and works with a rotating boom that moves the cable lifting point outside the fuselage contour. The exact installation side, boom interface, reinforcement points and electrical connection must be checked against the aircraft modification and installation documentation. Hoist installation is not only an equipment question; it also involves airframe interface and mission equipment layout.
SLG-300 lifting mechanism and cable control
The lifting function is performed by the electric hoist assembly, commonly associated with the LPG-300 model. The cable is released and retrieved under operator control, with several speed ranges and smooth speed adjustment. This allows the operator to adapt movement to the situation: slow and careful handling near people or obstacles, faster movement when raising or lowering cargo in open space. The cable system works together with the boom, control box, operator panel and aircraft power supply. Correct cable winding, cable condition and smooth drum operation are essential for safe work.
Control equipment of the SLG-300 system
The SLG-300 system normally includes a control box and an operator control panel. The control panel gives the operator command over cable release, cable retrieval and speed selection. The control box manages electrical switching and system operation according to the commands received. In practical use, the operator needs clear feedback from the load, cable position and aircraft crew. The hoist must respond without jerks, uncontrolled acceleration or delay that could create danger for the person or load below the helicopter.
Safety features in the SLG-300 hoist
The SLG-300 includes protective elements intended to reduce the risk of mechanical damage and unsafe overload conditions. A friction clutch protects the gearbox and drive components during short-term overloads. The system also includes emergency cable-cut capability using a pyrotechnic device, allowing the crew to release the load in a critical situation when keeping the cable attached becomes unsafe. These features do not replace proper operation, but they are important for real rescue and cargo work, where load swing, obstacles, weather and helicopter movement can quickly complicate the situation.
Maintenance and supply of SLG-300 equipment
For supply or replacement, the SLG-300 should be specified as a system, not only as a hoist motor or winch. A complete requirement may include the LPG-300 electric hoist, KUP-300 control box, PUL-300 control panel, boom elements, cable, spare cable set, installation hardware and documentation. Before operation, the system should be checked for cable condition, drum winding, control response, boom movement, emergency cut function, clutch condition, electrical connections and aircraft installation status. Documentation, remaining service life and inspection records are especially important for equipment used to lift people.
Related system equipment: LPG-300, KUP-300. These items are grouped by system function and installation context, not as interchangeable replacements.
