Description

KUP-300 control box in the SLG-300 helicopter hoist system

The KUP-300 is an aircraft drive control box used as part of the SLG-300 helicopter cargo and rescue hoist system. It provides electrical switching, power distribution, control signal routing and safety interlock logic between the operator controls and the LPG-300 electric hoist. The unit is used in helicopter systems designed for lifting and lowering cargo or personnel during hover operation.

KUP-300 with LPG-300 hoist and PUL-300 control panel

The KUP-300 works together with the LPG-300 electric hoist and the PUL-300 portable operator control panel. In this system, the operator commands rope release or retrieval through the control panel, while the KUP-300 distributes the required power and switching commands to the hoist drive. The unit is not the lifting mechanism itself. It is the electrical control and switching block that allows the hoist system to operate correctly.

Electrical switching function of KUP-300

One of the main tasks of the KUP-300 is switching the three-phase power supply to the hoist electric motors. By changing the switching logic, the control box enables the required direction of motor rotation for rope release or rope retrieval. It also coordinates the operating commands coming from the control panel and sends them to the LPG-300 drive circuits. Proper contact condition, relay operation and connector integrity are critical for safe hoist operation.

Speed control and hoist operation

The KUP-300 supports the four-speed operating mode of the SLG-300 hoist system. It helps provide controlled switching between speed modes during rope release and retrieval. Smooth speed control is important when working with suspended cargo or personnel, because sudden movement can create dangerous load swing or shock loading. The final speed command is given by the operator through the PUL-300 panel, while the KUP-300 handles the electrical switching inside the system.

Brake clutch power and synchronization

The KUP-300 also supplies power to the electromagnetic brake clutches of the hoist system. The brake release must be synchronized with motor start so that the drum can move only when the drive is properly commanded. If the brake clutch circuit does not work correctly, the hoist may fail to release, fail to retrieve or create unsafe mechanical loading. During maintenance, brake-clutch circuits should be checked together with motor control circuits.

Safety interlocks and protection signals

The KUP-300 receives signals from safety elements installed in the hoist system, including boom limit switches and rope-remaining sensors. These signals are used to stop or block drive operation when a dangerous condition is reached. This helps prevent structural overload, excessive rope payout, incorrect boom position or other unsafe operating states. For that reason, the control box must be checked together with the complete SLG-300 system, not separately from the sensors and wiring.

Aircraft application of KUP-300

The KUP-300 is used in helicopter cargo and rescue hoist systems installed on Mi-8 / Mi-17 family helicopters and Ansat helicopters, depending on configuration. The complete system is used for lifting and lowering loads up to 300 kg and for personnel lifting operations, usually not more than two persons within the approved load and procedure. Exact installation, wiring and operating limits must be checked by the helicopter and SLG-300 technical documentation.

Supply and inspection of KUP-300

For procurement or replacement, the unit should be specified as KUP-300 / КУП-300 drive control box for the SLG-300 hoist system. Before installation, the unit should be checked for housing condition, connectors, relays, internal switching elements, insulation, power circuits, control circuits and response to limit-switch signals. For aviation use, product passport, test report, acceptance documents, repair documents or overhaul records should be confirmed where required.
