Roll, pitch and sideslip indication

The AG-83-15 gives the crew a direct visual reference for spatial orientation. Roll indication is available through the full bank range, while pitch indication covers the specified nose-up and nose-down operating range. Sideslip indication helps the pilot monitor whether the aircraft is flying in a coordinated condition. These functions are important during turns, climb, descent, approach, maneuvering and flight without a reliable outside horizon. For aircraft with classic flight instrument panels, the attitude indicator remains one of the key reference instruments.

AG-83-15 modifications for different panels

The AG-83-15 family includes modifications such as AG-83-5 and AG-83-10, selected according to the inclination angle of the instrument panel. This allows the same general instrument type to be adapted to different cockpit layouts. When ordering or replacing the unit, it is important to confirm the exact modification, not only the general AG-83 designation. A unit with the wrong panel-angle version may not align correctly with the aircraft installation or may give an incorrect cockpit reference after installation.

Electrical output signals from AG-83-15

In addition to visual indication, the AG-83-15 generates roll and pitch output signals for external systems. These signals may be used by onboard avionics, monitoring equipment, automatic control circuits or recording systems depending on aircraft configuration. For this reason, the instrument should be checked not only by its display movement, but also by electrical output behavior. If the receiving system uses these signals, connector condition, wiring, output accuracy and power supply quality become part of the serviceability check.

Operation under vibration and maneuvering

The AG-83-15 is designed for operation under dynamic aircraft conditions, including oscillating and vibrating bases. Its error limits are specified for vibration exposure and after 180-degree turns over a defined period. This is important because an attitude indicator must remain usable not only in a static workshop test, but also during actual aircraft motion. During maintenance, attention should be given to warm-up time, stability of indication, post-turn accuracy, vibration behavior and smoothness of the internal gyro system.

Bank warning and trim bar adjustment

The AG-83-15 includes bank angle warning activation at preset roll angle thresholds. This warning helps the crew monitor bank limits during flight, especially in instrument or low-visibility conditions. The instrument also includes a mechanical trim bar adjustment using the rack handle, allowing the visible reference to be adjusted within the specified range. Both functions should be checked during inspection. A correct attitude indication is only part of the instrument’s serviceability; warning response and trim movement also matter.

Supply and documentation for AG-83-15

The AG-83-15 may be supplied new, from storage, repaired, overhauled or serviceable depending on availability. For aviation use, documentation and condition are essential. Before shipment, the unit should be checked for marking, exact modification, mounting condition, connector condition, indication accuracy, warning operation and completeness. Technical documentation may be provided on request. When ordering, the request should specify the required version, aircraft application, condition and documentation package.
