The AGB-3K Series 2 is a gyroscopic aircraft attitude indicator used in flight and navigation instrument systems of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. It provides the crew with visual information about the aircraft’s position relative to the true horizon and supports attitude monitoring during manual flight, instrument flight and maneuvering. The instrument indicates roll and pitch angles and also generates proportional electrical output signals for connected onboard systems. In the aircraft instrument panel, it works as both a visual horizon reference and an attitude signal source.

Roll and pitch indication of AGB-3K Series 2

The AGB-3K Series 2 provides stabilized roll and pitch indication for the pilot. Roll indication covers the full bank range, while pitch indication is available within the specified operating limits. This information is needed during turns, climb, descent, approach, route flight and operation in limited visibility, where a stable artificial horizon becomes one of the main flight references. After warm-up, the unit should hold a clear and steady indication without excessive drift or delayed response.

Electrical output signals for onboard systems

Besides cockpit indication, the AGB-3K Series 2 generates electrical signals proportional to roll and pitch. These outputs can be used by onboard avionics, automatic control equipment, monitoring circuits or flight data recording systems, depending on the aircraft configuration. For this reason, serviceability cannot be judged only by the visual display. If the aircraft uses the electrical outputs, the inspection should include connectors, wiring, output signal behavior, power supply stability and compatibility with the receiving equipment.

Gyroscopic assembly and correction system

The AGB-3K Series 2 operates on a gyroscopic assembly with a correction system. The correction system helps maintain the instrument’s attitude reference during normal flight and maneuvering. The unit has specified limits for indication error, precession rate and gyro drift without correction. These parameters are important during bench checks and aircraft troubleshooting. A horizon may appear normal immediately after power-up, but excessive precession or drift over several minutes can still make it unsuitable for installation.

Power failure indication on AGB-3K Series 2

The AGB-3K Series 2 includes a warning flag for electrical supply failure. The flag indicates failure of the DC circuit and loss of one AC phase. This is an important safety and maintenance function, because the reliability of a gyroscopic attitude indicator depends on proper power supply. If the required electrical supply is lost, the crew or technician must see that the indication may not be reliable. The warning flag should be checked during functional testing together with warm-up time and indication stability.

Aircraft application and interchangeability

The AGB-3K Series 2 is used on Mi-8, Mi-17, Yak-40, An-24, An-26, An-30, Il-76 and other aircraft where the approved flight instrument system allows its installation. The unit may be listed as interchangeable with AGB-3K and AGB-3K Series 3, but replacement should always follow the aircraft documentation. Even when units are considered interchangeable, the exact series, connector arrangement, power supply, installation position and permitted substitution must be confirmed before installation.
