Mechanical and combined control through KAU-115AM

In mechanical-hydraulic mode, the KAU-115AM transmits pilot input from the control linkage and uses hydraulic pressure to move the connected mechanism. In combined mode, the same actuator also receives correction signals from the flight-navigation complex. These signals are added to the mechanical control path and allow the system to correct the position of the controlled element. The actuator itself does not create pressure. It uses hydraulic supply from the helicopter system and converts control input into movement of the output rod.

Flight control channels with KAU-115AM installed

The KAU-115AM operates in the longitudinal, lateral, directional, and collective pitch control channels. In these channels it works with control rods, bellcranks, hydraulic supply and drain lines, feedback elements, and correction circuits. If one control channel behaves incorrectly, the cause is not always the actuator. Maintenance checks normally include supply pressure, drain pressure, output rod travel, fluid condition, linkage adjustment, electrical signal wiring, and the condition of connected mechanical parts.

Helicopter application of actuator KAU-115AM

The KAU-115AM is used on Mi-family helicopters, including Mi-8, Mi-10, Mi-6, and Mi-171 helicopters. Technical references describe it as an actuator for the main rotor control elements in longitudinal, lateral, directional, and collective pitch channels. In Mi-8AMT documentation, KAU-115AM is listed with KAU-30B and RA-60B as part of the irreversible flight control system.
