Combined Control Unit
The RA-60B is a combined hydromechanical control unit used in helicopter flight control systems. It works as a powered actuator with an electrohydraulic tracking system and transmits control movement through the hydraulic control circuit. This is not a simple hydraulic cylinder. The unit combines mechanical input from the pilot, hydraulic power, and electrical control signals in one assembly. In Mi-8 / Mi-17 systems, the RA-60B is normally associated with the directional control channel and works together with the tail rotor control system.
In manual control, the RA-60B follows movement from the pilot’s control linkage and uses hydraulic pressure to move the connected mechanism. In combined semi-automatic mode, the unit also receives automatic control signals and adds them to the manual input. This allows the flight control system to combine pilot command and automatic correction without removing the mechanical control path. Technical descriptions note that the RA-60B can operate in manual mode, combined control mode, hydraulic pressure loss mode, and transfer mode.
The RA-60B works with hydraulic pressure and drain lines, control rods, bellcranks, electrical signal circuits, and the connected flight control mechanism. Its tracking system helps the actuator follow the commanded movement rather than only apply force. If the control response becomes abnormal, the RA-60B is only one part of the inspection. Maintenance checks usually include hydraulic pressure, drain back pressure, AMG-10 condition, control linkage adjustment, electrical signals, microswitches, and the mechanical condition of the related control channel.
The RA-60B is used on Mi-8 family helicopters and their modifications, including Mi-8, Mi-8T, Mi-17, Mi-171, and Mi-172 references in open catalogs. Public technical descriptions identify it as a combined control actuator installed in the helicopter flight control system and, more specifically, in the directional control system. In Mi-8 type hydraulic layouts, KAU-30B units are used in the main rotor control channels, while RA-60B is associated with tail rotor / directional control. Exact installation should be checked by the helicopter parts catalog.
Before ordering, the marking on the installed unit should be compared with the helicopter passport, spare parts catalog, or official technical documentation. The product may appear in documents as RA60B, RA 60B, RA-60-B, or RA60-B. In Russian documentation, the same unit is written as РА-60Б, РА60Б, or РА 60Б. A clear request should include the helicopter type, installation channel, full designation, and a photo of the data plate if available.
