Verification and Calibration Equipment

The PAA-34B is ground verification and calibration equipment used for testing the AP-34B autopilot installed on Mi-8 and Mi-17 family helicopters. It is not an onboard flight unit. The equipment is used during workshop, laboratory, depot, and overhaul maintenance when AP-34B components must be checked outside normal aircraft operation. In practical work, the PAA-34B helps technicians verify separate autopilot blocks or assemble a complete control loop for bench testing before the equipment returns to the helicopter.
The PAA-34B is used to check control channels, sensor signals, actuator response, and interaction between AP-34B blocks. It supports work with rate gyros, compensation sensors, control units, control panels, amplifiers, and height correction equipment. The equipment can simulate operating conditions for selected autopilot channels and show whether the unit under test produces the expected electrical or gyro-related response. This is important because an AP-34B fault is not always located in one block. It may come from a sensor, wiring, amplifier, control unit, or incorrect adjustment of the closed control loop.
A complete PAA-34B set includes several test panels and interface tools rather than one single instrument. The set may include a panel for compensation sensors and rate gyros, a control unit tester for the AP-34B control unit, a panel for the autopilot control panel, a panel for the KV-11 altitude corrector, and adapters, cables, and mounting brackets. The equipment supports checks of DUS-1209G, DUS-1209E, DUS-1209K sensors, KV-11, AP-34B control panels, control units, amplifier blocks, and related circuits. Exact kit composition should be checked against the passport or supply documentation.
The PAA-34B is associated with AP-34B autopilot systems used on Mi-8 and Mi-17 family helicopters, including Mi-8T, Mi-8MT, Mi-8AMT, Mi-8MTV-1, and Mi-17. The AP-34B system is a multi-channel automatic flight control system, and its actual configuration may differ between helicopter variants and overhaul standards. For this reason, PAA-34B use depends on the aircraft documentation, installed autopilot series, and the list of blocks sent for testing. A workshop may use the equipment for individual module checks or for a more complete autopilot loop, depending on the maintenance task.
Before ordering PAA-34B equipment or a separate panel from the set, the required configuration should be checked against the AP-34B maintenance documentation. Some operators need the full kit; others only need selected panels, cables, or adapters for a specific test procedure. The panel designation 6S2.702.007 is often mentioned in relation to PAA-34B equipment, so it is better to list all required items from the maintenance instruction or passport. The product is also known under alternative designations PAA-34B and ПАА-34Б.
