Description

AGD-1 is a remote gyroscopic aircraft attitude indicator designed to provide pilots with clear, intuitive, large-scale indication of the aircraft spatial position relative to the true horizon over a wide range of roll and pitch angles. The instrument maintains correct indications after all maneuvers encountered in normal aircraft piloting practice.

In the AGD-1 system, the visual horizon indicator operates as a servo-controlled tracking system that reproduces roll and pitch angles based on electrical signals transmitted from a remotely installed gyro vertical sensor (gyro transmitter). This design enables a rational and stable attitude indication system.

The use of remote electrical transmission of gyro sensor output signals allows one gyro sensor to drive one or multiple visual horizon indicators simultaneously. In addition, the gyro sensor generates electrical signals proportional to roll and pitch angles not only for AGD-1 indicators, but also for other onboard consumers such as heading systems, radar systems, and other aircraft equipment.

The AGD-1 set consists of one gyro sensor and one or two horizon indicators, with the possibility of connecting additional indicators. Normal operation requires a three-phase AC power supply of 36 V at 400 Hz and a DC power supply of 27 V. The gyro sensor must be connected to the VK-53RB correction switch to disable lateral correction during turns.

AGD-1 provides correct attitude indications within a roll range of 360° and a pitch range of 360°, except for the pitch angles in the 85–95° dive and climb zones. With correction enabled, the gyro sensor ensures high vertical reference accuracy on a stationary base, while indication errors after turns and complex aerobatic maneuvers remain within specified limits.
