UI3-6K is an electrical three-pointer aircraft indicator used for monitoring oil pressure and oil temperature in helicopter transmission systems. The instrument is installed in the cockpit panel and gives the crew a combined reading from several related circuits. It is not a sensor and does not measure pressure or temperature directly. The indicator receives signals from remote transmitters and temperature receivers installed in gearbox oil systems. In Mi-8 type helicopters, this layout is practical because transmission parameters stay grouped in one instrument position instead of being split across separate gauges.
One channel of the UI3-6K works as an oil pressure indicator. In a typical helicopter installation, this channel is connected with the main gearbox oil pressure circuit. The actual pressure is measured by an external transmitter in the oil line, while the cockpit indicator displays the received electrical signal. If the pointer does not move, jumps, or shows an incorrect value, the fault may be in the indicator, transmitter, wiring, connector, power supply or grounding. For this reason, the full measuring circuit should be checked before replacing the instrument.
Other channels of the UI3-6K are used for oil temperature indication in transmission-related systems. On Mi-8 / Mi-17 / Mi-171 helicopters, the instrument is associated with monitoring oil temperature in the intermediate and tail gearbox circuits, depending on the aircraft configuration. These readings matter during operation because gearbox oil temperature reflects lubrication condition, cooling efficiency, load and possible mechanical issues. The indicator gives a direct cockpit reading, but the accuracy depends on the installed temperature receivers and the condition of the wiring between the gearbox and cockpit panel.
UI3-6K is used on helicopters where the crew needs cockpit indication of transmission oil parameters. Typical application includes Mi-8 family helicopters and related Mi-17 / Mi-171 configurations. The exact panel position, wiring and sensor set may differ by helicopter modification, production series, overhaul history and installed instrument package. A visually similar UI3-series indicator should not be treated as interchangeable without checking the scale, measured parameters, power supply and sensor compatibility. This is especially important for aircraft that have passed through repair or partial cockpit modernization.
In the aircraft system, UI3-6K works with pressure transmitters, temperature receivers, cockpit power circuits, connector harnesses and the helicopter transmission oil system. The unit does not regulate pressure and does not control temperature. Its role is indication only. During troubleshooting, maintenance personnel normally check the instrument together with external senders and wiring. A wrong reading can come from a faulty transmitter, open circuit, poor connector contact, unstable AC supply or an internal defect in the indicator.
Before ordering UI3-6K, the marking on the instrument should be compared with the aircraft parts catalog, wiring diagram and cockpit panel layout. The “K” suffix refers to the lighting version used with cockpit illumination requirements. For correct selection, provide the helicopter type, measured parameter list, scale ranges, supply type and a photo of the installed instrument. This helps avoid confusion with other UI3-series indicators. The product is also known under alternative designations UI3-6K, UI-3-6K and УИ3-6К.
