Description

465A electric hydraulic pump in aircraft hydraulic systems

The 465A is an electrically driven plunger-type hydraulic pump used to create pressure in aircraft hydraulic systems. The unit supplies AMG-10 hydraulic fluid under pressure and can work in main, auxiliary, emergency or service hydraulic circuits depending on the aircraft layout. Since the pump is powered from a 27 V DC electrical network, it can operate independently from engine-driven hydraulic pumps. This makes the 465A useful in systems where pressure must be available during ground servicing, backup operation, or when the main hydraulic source is not available.

Pressure supply function of the 465A pump

The 465A is designed for high-pressure hydraulic delivery. Its job is not just to move fluid through a line, but to build the pressure needed for hydraulic consumers to operate correctly. On aircraft, this may include brake circuits, emergency hydraulic networks, landing gear or flap-related systems, depending on the specific installation. If the pump loses delivery or cannot reach pressure under load, the connected system may respond slowly, operate unevenly, or fail to complete the required movement. That is why the pump is checked by pressure and flow, not only by visual condition.

465A with MP-6000-2S electric motor

The 465A is driven by an MP-6000-2S DC electric motor with compound excitation and self-ventilation. This is a powerful motor for a 27 V aircraft network, so the pump requires proper high-current switching and circuit protection. In normal aircraft installations, the motor is controlled through contactors, protection devices and control circuits rather than through a small switch directly. During troubleshooting, the pump and motor should be checked together with the contactor, wiring, power supply, circuit breakers and any pressure-control elements that command the pump.

Aircraft application of the 465A pump

The 465A is used on several Soviet and Russian aircraft and helicopter types, including Tu-134, Tu-16, An-8, An-12, An-22, An-24, An-26, An-30, Mi-6 and Mi-10, depending on the aircraft configuration. On these platforms, pumps of the 465 family may be installed in hydraulic systems that require an electrically powered pressure source. The exact function depends on the hydraulic layout of the aircraft: in one system it may support emergency pressure, while in another it may be used for brake supply, ground operation or selected service functions.

465A in ground, marine and field equipment

Apart from onboard aircraft use, the 465A can be used in specialized ground, marine and field hydraulic installations. The 27 V DC power supply makes the pump suitable for mobile systems where industrial electrical power is not available. Pumps of this type may be used in hydraulic test stands, service units, shipboard equipment and field hydraulic machinery, including pipe-laying or centering equipment. For non-aircraft use, the pump is valued for compact high-pressure output, but for aviation use its suitability must still be confirmed by passport, documentation and system compatibility.

Difference between 465A and other 465-series pumps

The 465 series includes several related versions, including 465A, 465D, 465K and 465MTV. These units can be close in general design but differ in pressure rating, motor type, output, weight, installation details and system application. The 465A uses the MP-6000-2S motor and has its own pressure and flow characteristics. It should not be replaced by another version only because the designation starts with “465”. Before replacement, the exact aircraft type, system pressure, hydraulic line layout, electrical load and documentation approval should be checked.

Inspection and supply of the 465A pump

Before installation, the 465A should be inspected as a complete electrohydraulic unit. Important points include the pump housing, hydraulic ports, sealing surfaces, electric motor condition, terminals or connector, direction of rotation, leakage, pressure build-up and flow under load. Long storage can affect seals, internal cleanliness and motor condition, even when the outside of the pump looks acceptable. For supply, the required condition should be stated clearly: new, from storage, repaired, overhauled or bench-tested. For aircraft installation, passport and acceptance documents are essential.
