The 465D is an electrically driven high-pressure hydraulic pump used to create and maintain pressure in aircraft hydraulic systems. It is a plunger-type pump driven by a 27 V DC electric motor, which allows the unit to operate independently from engine-driven hydraulic pumps. In aircraft applications, this is especially useful for standby, emergency, brake, or ground-service hydraulic circuits. The pump supplies AMG-10 hydraulic fluid to the required line and helps keep the system pressure at the level needed for safe operation of connected hydraulic consumers.
The 465D is designed for systems where high hydraulic pressure is required from an electric source. It can be used to feed brake accumulators, emergency circuits, auxiliary hydraulic lines, or other consumers depending on the aircraft layout. The pump is not normally treated as a simple fluid-transfer unit. It works as a pressure-generating assembly and must be installed together with pressure switches, protection devices, unloading elements, valves, and electrical control equipment. Without this surrounding equipment, the pump cannot safely maintain automatic hydraulic system operation.
On aircraft such as An-24, An-26, Tu-134 and related platforms, pumps of the 465 series are used in hydraulic systems where pressure must be available even if the main hydraulic source is unavailable. The 465D may support emergency flap extension, brake system pressure, hydraulic accumulator charging, or selected backup functions depending on the aircraft type. In this role, the pump is important because it gives the aircraft an electrically powered hydraulic source from the DC network, separate from the normal engine-driven hydraulic pumps.
The 465D uses an MP-6000-2S DC electric motor with compound excitation and self-ventilation. This motor is powerful for a 27 V aircraft system and draws a high starting current, so it is not switched directly by small cockpit controls or pressure sensors. In normal aircraft wiring, the pump motor is connected through DC contactors and protected circuits. Pressure switches and control devices command the contactor coil, while the contactor itself connects the high-current 27 V supply to the electric motor.
For automatic pressure control, the 465D can work with devices such as the PDM-210 oil pressure switch and ES-200 pressure signal unit. The pressure switch can start the pump when system pressure drops and stop it when the required pressure is reached. Signal units provide cockpit or system indication of pressure availability. In some hydraulic layouts, the pump also works with unloading valves, pressure regulators, solenoid valves and protective equipment. This is why troubleshooting must include the pump, pressure switch, contactor, wiring, unloading circuit and hydraulic consumers together.
Although the 465D is an aviation pump, it is also used in specialized ground and marine equipment where a compact 27 V high-pressure hydraulic source is required. Examples include airfield hydraulic test units and mobile hydraulic installations. The pump’s ability to operate from a DC supply makes it useful where industrial three-phase power is not available. At the same time, civil or ground use should not be confused with aircraft installation: for aviation service, the part must still be checked by designation, documentation, test status and compatibility with the aircraft hydraulic system.
When ordering the 465D, it is important to specify the exact modification, because the 465 family includes several versions such as 465A, 465D, 465K and 465MTV. These pumps may look similar but differ in pressure rating, motor power, system use or aircraft applicability. The 465D version is associated with higher working pressure than some related variants and uses a more powerful electric motor. Before installation, the unit should be checked for housing condition, motor condition, hydraulic ports, direction of rotation, storage status, leakage, pressure performance and available documents.
