One of the main functions of SB5-B1-YARII is preliminary selection of radio signals entering the receiver-exciter. The band-pass filter section helps limit the signal path to the required frequency band and reduce unwanted out-of-band components before further processing. This preliminary selection supports stable receiver operation and prepares the signal for the next stages of the radio station. If the subunit is defective, the receiver-exciter may show poor selectivity, unstable reception or reduced performance in the HF communication band.

SB5-B1-YARII in the receive path of B1-YARII

In the receive path, SB5-B1-YARII works before the main signal selection and intermediate-frequency amplification stages. After preliminary selection and conversion, the signal is transferred to SB2-B1, where it passes through the main selection filters and IF amplifier stages. The signal then continues to SB4-B1 for detection and audio-frequency amplification. This position places SB5-B1 at the front part of the receiver-exciter signal chain, where the quality of initial RF filtering affects the following modules.

Transmit-path function of SB5-B1-YARII

In transmit mode, SB5-B1-YARII forms the excitation voltage for the B4-YAR1 power amplifier block. The module receives the prepared modulated signal from the receiver-exciter chain and supports its transfer toward the final power amplification section of the radio station. This function is required for correct transmitter operation in the Yadro-1 system. During troubleshooting, technicians should check SB5-B1 together with the modulator subunit, reference oscillator, power amplifier block, control circuits and interblock connections.
