Description

Orlan-85ST is an onboard short-range aircraft radio station designed to provide two-way simplex, preset, non-search, non-tuned radiotelephone voice communication between aircraft crews and ground air traffic control services, as well as between aircraft in flight.

The radio station complies with ICAO requirements and is approved for operation in international airspace, including flights within European countries. Orlan-85ST is intended for installation as part of standard digital onboard equipment on passenger-carrying aircraft.

The radio station supports two-way simplex voice communication between the crew and ground control services and between aircraft, as well as simplex automated data transmission over “Ground-to-Air” and “Air-to-Ground” links in air traffic management systems. An additional function provides continuous monitoring of the emergency channel at 121.5 MHz on command, with audible and visual indication when a signal is present, without affecting the primary communication functions.

Orlan-85ST consists of receiving and transmitting paths and common units, including a control and monitoring unit, frequency tuning system, power supply unit, and remote control panel. The receiver path performs selection, amplification, and conversion of the received RF signal into an audio-frequency signal. The transmitter path includes a modulator with microphone and data inputs and a power amplifier.

The radio station is powered from the aircraft 27 V DC onboard electrical system. Frequency or operating channel selection is performed manually using the remote control panel. Orlan-85ST is used on fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters and is designed for reliable operation over a wide temperature range.
