In aircraft navigation lighting, the red light identifies the left side of the aircraft. This color arrangement is standard for aircraft position lights: red on the left, green on the right and white to the rear. It is a side navigation / position light used to define the aircraft outline.

The BANO-64 red uses an incandescent lamp and a red glass filter. The lamp provides the light source, while the filter forms the required red color for the left-side navigation position. A cracked filter, weak contact, wrong lamp type or damaged housing can reduce visibility and cause unreliable operation.

Installation of BANO-64 red on the left side

The BANO-64 red is installed on the left wing console, left wing tip or another approved left-side position. On some helicopters, including Mi-8-type layouts, a red position light may also be installed on the side surface of the fuselage near the cockpit area, depending on the specific aircraft configuration. The unit is mounted through three holes in the metal base. During replacement, the mounting direction and visibility sector must be preserved, because the light has a defined horizontal coverage angle.
