Navigation Light
Available on back-order
The BANO-64 red is an onboard aircraft navigation light fitted with a red glass light filter. It is installed on the left side of an aircraft, usually on the left wing tip or left-side airframe position depending on aircraft design. Its main function is to mark the aircraft’s left side during night flight, taxiing, parking and ground movement. Together with the green right-side light and white tail light, it helps other crews and ground personnel determine the aircraft’s position and direction of movement.
In aircraft navigation lighting, the red light identifies the left side of the aircraft. This color arrangement is standard for aircraft position lights: red on the left, green on the right and white to the rear. When another crew sees the red and green lights, they can quickly understand the aircraft’s orientation and direction of travel. The BANO-64 red is not a landing light or a searchlight. It is a side navigation / position light used to define the aircraft outline.
The BANO-64 red uses an incandescent lamp and a red glass filter. The lamp provides the light source, while the filter forms the required red color for the left-side navigation position. The unit consists of a metal base, lamp holder and colored filter. Since the light is installed in exposed aircraft areas, the condition of the glass, contacts, lamp holder and base is important. A cracked filter, weak contact, wrong lamp type or damaged housing can reduce visibility and cause unreliable operation.
The BANO-64 red is installed on the left wing console, left wing tip or another approved left-side position. On some helicopters, including Mi-8-type layouts, a red position light may also be installed on the side surface of the fuselage near the cockpit area, depending on the specific aircraft configuration. The unit is mounted through three holes in the metal base. During replacement, the mounting direction and visibility sector must be preserved, because the light has a defined horizontal coverage angle.
The BANO-64 red is part of the aircraft external lighting system and is connected to the onboard navigation light circuit. It is used during night operation and in reduced-visibility conditions to mark the aircraft contour. The unit is simple in design, but its correct operation is important for flight safety and visual orientation on the ground. During maintenance, technicians should check the lamp, contact group, wiring, filter condition and secure mounting.
The BANO-64 red navigation light is used on a wide range of Soviet and Russian-designed aircraft and helicopters. It may be installed on light, training, transport, passenger and rotary-wing aircraft, depending on configuration. Typical platforms include An-family, Il-family, Tu-family and Yak aircraft, as well as Mil and Kamov helicopters such as Mi-8 and related models. Exact applicability should always be confirmed by aircraft type, modification, parts catalog and external lighting diagram.
For procurement or replacement, the unit should be specified as BANO-64 red, with the filter color clearly stated. This is important because BANO-64 lights may be supplied as left-side red or right-side green versions. Before installation, the lamp type, voltage, power rating, filter color, base condition, mounting holes and contacts should be checked. For aviation use, passport, acceptance or quality documentation should be confirmed where required.
