Reduction Accelerator
The UP03/2M is a pneumatic reduction accelerator used in aircraft and heavy-duty pneumatic braking systems. Its main function is to speed up the supply of compressed air to the brake line and provide fast exhaust when braking is released. In aircraft applications, the unit works as an executive pneumatic component in the main and emergency brake systems. It receives a control pressure signal and converts it into a faster, stronger air supply to the brake actuators, improving response time and stability of braking.
In a pneumatic brake system, direct air delivery through a control valve may be too slow for large brake chambers or long pneumatic lines. The UP03/2M helps solve this by working close to the brake circuit as a flow accelerator. When the braking command appears, the unit opens the supply path and fills the brake line quickly. When the command is removed, it opens the exhaust path and releases air from the brake circuit. This makes braking and brake release more responsive, especially in systems where quick pressure change is important.
The UP03/2M can be used in both main and emergency braking systems. In each case, its role is the same: to receive a controlled pneumatic signal and manage the air flow to the brake line. In main braking, this supports controlled deceleration during taxiing, landing rollout and ground handling. In emergency braking, the unit helps ensure that air reaches the brake circuit quickly when normal braking control is unavailable or insufficient. The exact installation depends on the aircraft pneumatic diagram and approved maintenance documentation.
The UP03/2M is not just a simple air valve. It works as a reduction accelerator, using control pressure to regulate the reduced output pressure delivered to the brake system. The unit operates with inlet pressure up to 5.9 MPa and produces reduced output pressure of 3.2 ±0.29 MPa according to the specified data. The valve opening pressure is 0.5 MPa, while the control pressure is 1.1 MPa. These parameters define how the unit reacts to brake commands and how much pressure is supplied to the downstream braking circuit.
The working medium for the UP03/2M is compressed air. The unit must therefore be used in a clean pneumatic system, with air quality and line condition controlled according to aircraft maintenance requirements. Moisture, contamination or damaged pneumatic lines can affect valve response and sealing. During operation, the accelerator must open, regulate and exhaust without sticking or leakage. A slow response, pressure loss, air leakage through the exhaust port or unstable braking may indicate a problem in the accelerator itself or in the surrounding pneumatic system.
The UP03/2M is applicable to Mi-8 / Mi-17 helicopter series braking systems, depending on the specific aircraft configuration. These helicopters use pneumatic braking elements where fast and reliable air supply is required for wheel braking. The accelerator works together with the brake control valve, pneumatic lines, onboard pressure source and wheel brake actuators. For installation or replacement, the unit should be checked against the helicopter parts catalog, pneumatic brake system diagram and passport documentation.
For procurement, the main designation should be stated as UP03/2M. Alternative markings may appear in documentation or supplier listings, but the passport and specification reference should match the required unit. The product is supplied as a pneumatic reduction accelerator assembly with documentation depending on the order. For aircraft use, the passport UP03/2M PS and references to TU UP03M-200 and OTU 51с-6 are important for confirming the correct product type, technical standard and acceptance status.
