Description

The A-037-1 is the primary transmitting–receiving unit (transceiver) of the A-037 radio altimeter set , designed to measure the true altitude of an aircraft above any surface — land, water, or rough terrain.
The unit is installed on fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters and is widely integrated on Mi-8, Mi-17, and Mi-171 series helicopters.

The A-037-1 operates on the principle of continuous-wave radar with frequency modulation. The unit transmits an RF signal toward the surface, receives the reflected return, and processes it to generate instantaneous altitude information in real time.

The system provides the crew and onboard systems with:
• Continuous indication of current altitude on the pointer indicator
• An aural and visual low-altitude warning when descending below a preset threshold
• A fault indication — a red flag on the scale when the system detects a malfunction, loss of radar contact with terrain, or flight above the operating altitude range

The transceiver forms the electronic core of the A-037 altimeter system and incorporates receiving, transmitting, signal-processing, and monitoring circuits. The unit housing is metallic, top-covered with a perforated U-shaped panel, and includes manual access points for adjustments “1RS” and “2RS.” The block mounts on standard frame fixtures and connects via rear connector Ш1-1.

The unit shall be operated strictly per aircraft documents and radio altimeter technical requirements. Reliability, service life, and environmental limits are set by the manufacturer and confirmed by the passport.
