SKES-2027B is an aircraft electric kerosene quantity measuring system used on Mi-8 family helicopters. It measures fuel volume in the helicopter tanks and provides indication on the cockpit instrument panel. The system is used not only for normal fuel quantity reading, but also for signalling full tank condition during refuelling and low fuel reserve in the service tank. In operation, SKES-2027B works as a complete set: cockpit indicator, tank selector, float-type sensors and auxiliary checking equipment.
The system receives signals from float-lever fuel level sensors installed in individual tanks. As the fuel level changes, the sensor changes the electrical signal sent to the cockpit indicator. The crew selects the required tank through the P8U selector and reads the fuel volume on the SKES-2027B pointer indicator. This layout allows both total fuel monitoring and individual tank control, depending on the selected mode and helicopter wiring. The system is intended for kerosene fuel quantity control, not for fuel flow measurement.
The SKES-2027B set includes separate sensors for specific helicopter tanks. The service tank uses the “Bak R” sensor, which also provides the emergency fuel reserve signal. The left external tank uses the “Bak Pl” sensor, while the right external tank uses the “Bak Ppr” sensor. If an additional tank is installed, the “Bak D” sensor is used. This tank-specific marking is important. Sensors from the same system are not always interchangeable by position, because each one is matched to its tank geometry and signalling function.
Besides fuel quantity indication, SKES-2027B supports refuelling and low reserve warning functions. The system can signal “tank full” for selected tanks during refuelling and activate the emergency reserve warning from the service tank when the fuel level reaches the specified limit. The indicator, P8U selector, DTPr sensors and IDP1 float sensor simulator are part of the same electrical measuring chain. If the indication is incorrect, the cause may be the sensor, selector, wiring, indicator, grounding or calibration equipment, so the system should be checked as a complete circuit.
Before ordering SKES-2027B or its parts, it is better to confirm whether a complete set or a separate component is required. A full set may include the SKES-2027B indicator, P8U selector, tank sensors for service, left external, right external and additional tanks, plus the IDP1 simulator. For Mi-8T, Mi-8MTV-1 and Mi-171E helicopters, the installed configuration should be checked against the aircraft logbook and fuel system documentation. The product is also known under alternative designations SKES-2027B, СКЭС-2027Б and electric kerosene quantity indicator.
