Description

BE-09K indicator in the SKES-2027B system

The BE-09K is a cockpit fuel quantity indicator used as part of the SKES-2027B electric kerosene quantity measuring system. It displays fuel volume from the helicopter tank sensors on a graduated pointer scale. The unit is not a fuel sensor and it does not measure the tank level directly. It receives electrical signals from the fuel measuring circuit and converts them into a visual reading for the crew. In the Mi-8 family fuel system, this indicator is one of the main cockpit components for fuel quantity control.

Fuel volume reading through BE-09K

In operation, the indicator shows either the total fuel quantity or the quantity in a selected tank, depending on the position of the tank selector. The reading is taken from the cockpit panel and is based on the signal coming from float-lever sensors installed in the fuel tanks. When the fuel level changes, the sensor position changes, the electrical signal changes as well, and the pointer moves on the scale. The indicator is used for fuel quantity indication only; it is not a fuel flowmeter.

BE-09K with P8U selector and DTPR sensors

The BE-09K works together with the P8U tank selector and DTPR series float-lever sensors. The selector allows the crew to switch the indication between the service tank, left external tank, right external tank and additional tanks, if installed. The sensors provide the tank-level signal, while the indicator gives the readable cockpit output. In a complete SKES-2027B set, the system may also include IDP-1 float sensor simulators used for checking and adjustment of the measuring circuit.

Aircraft application of BE-09K

The indicator is used on helicopters equipped with the SKES-2027B fuel quantity system, including Mi-8, Mi-17 and Mi-171 family aircraft. Typical applications include Mi-8T, Mi-8MTV-1 and Mi-171E configurations, depending on the installed fuel system. The scale version must match the aircraft tank layout. A scale intended for the standard tank set should not be selected only by appearance, because additional tanks and different wiring versions can change the required configuration.

Identification and ordering of BE-09K

Before ordering, the marking on the indicator should be checked against the aircraft parts catalog, fuel system documentation or product passport. It is useful to confirm the scale range, installed selector type, sensor set and aircraft modification. If the unit is supplied from storage or after repair, the passport and acceptance marks should be checked together with the serial number. The product is also known under alternative designations BE-09K, БЭ-09К and SKES-2027B indicator.
