Ignition Unit
Available on back-order
SK-22-2K is an aircraft ignition unit used in gas turbine engine ignition systems. It supplies the high-voltage pulse needed to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber during engine start. The unit is not a spark plug and it does not work alone. It is installed as part of the ignition circuit together with onboard DC power, control wiring, high-voltage leads and ignition plugs. In the aircraft system, SK-22-2K is the energy source for spark formation.
During operation, SK-22-2K receives low-voltage DC power from the aircraft electrical system and converts it into high-voltage discharge pulses. The stored energy is released to the ignition plug, where the spark is formed in the combustion zone. This process is used mainly during engine start, and in some engine configurations may also support relight logic according to the aircraft system design. The ignition unit must be checked together with the plug, cable and control circuit, because a weak or missing spark is not always caused by the unit itself.
SK-22-2K is associated with ignition systems of TV3-117 turboshaft engines. These engines are used on Mi-8 family helicopters, including Mi-17, Mi-171 and Mi-172 versions, as well as Ka-32 helicopters. In this group of aircraft, the ignition unit works with engine start controls, relay circuits, shielded high-voltage wiring and ignition plugs installed in the engine combustion section. The exact installation should be checked against the aircraft and engine documentation, because equipment sets may vary by modification.
In the ignition system, SK-22-2K provides energy accumulation and discharge in a controlled sequence. It receives power and start commands from the onboard electrical system, then supplies high-voltage pulses to the ignition plug through the high-voltage line. The unit is usually installed in the engine equipment area or another location defined by the aircraft layout. During maintenance, attention should be paid to connector condition, grounding, cable shielding and signs of overheating or insulation damage.
Before ordering SK-22-2K, the marking on the unit should be compared with the engine manual, aircraft parts catalog or product passport. Similar ignition units may differ by output energy, connector type, installation version or approved engine application. For correct selection, provide the aircraft type, engine type, installed ignition plug type and a photo of the data plate if available. The product is also known under alternative designations SK-22-2K and СК-22-2К.
