Description

Aircraft static converter PTS-800BM

The PTS-800BM is an aircraft three-phase static power converter used in onboard electrical power systems. It converts 27 V DC from the aircraft network into three-phase AC power for equipment that requires 400 Hz supply. Unlike rotary converters, the unit has no motor-generator section. Power conversion is handled by electronic modules, with regulation and protection circuits inside the converter. In aircraft installation, the PTS-800BM is part of the AC power supply chain for avionics, instruments, navigation equipment and other onboard consumers.

Electrical conversion through PTS-800BM

During operation, the PTS-800BM receives DC input power and forms a regulated three-phase AC output. The internal scheme includes inverter sections and a three-phase forming stage. The control system keeps the output voltage and frequency within the required range and disconnects or protects the unit under abnormal electrical conditions. This matters during troubleshooting, because a fault may come from the converter itself, the input DC line, the connected AC load, or the cooling circuit. The aircraft wiring diagram should be checked before replacing the unit.

PTS-800BM in onboard AC power systems

The converter is used where aircraft equipment needs three-phase 400 Hz AC power, while the available source is the aircraft DC network. Typical consumers include avionics blocks, navigation units, instrument systems and other electrical equipment installed on helicopters and aircraft. PTS-800BM is associated with Mi-8 / Mi-17 / Mi-171 / Mi-172 helicopter applications, and with aircraft such as An-148, Tu-204 and Tu-214. The exact installation may differ by aircraft version, equipment set and modification standard.

Construction of the PTS-800BM converter

The PTS-800BM is built in a rectangular housing containing power electronic modules, printed circuit boards for control and protection, input and output filters, and an integrated cooling fan. The fan works as part of the thermal control system and starts when the internal temperature reaches the specified level. For aircraft mounting, the converter can be installed in a shock absorbing frame. This frame reduces vibration and mechanical loads transferred to the unit, which is important for helicopter installations and equipment bays with high vibration.

Identification and ordering of PTS-800BM

Before ordering, the marking on the converter should be compared with the aircraft parts catalog, electrical system manual or equipment list. It is also useful to check whether the unit is required with the shock mount frame or without it, because weight and installation fit differ. For correct selection, provide the aircraft type, existing converter marking, required output power, voltage system and, if possible, a photo of the data plate. The product is also known under alternative designations PTS-800BM and ПТС-800БМ.
