Description

Starter-generator control panel PSG-15 / PSG-15M

The PSG-15 and PSG-15M are aircraft starter-generator start control panels used in engine starting systems. The panel is an electromechanical programmed unit. It controls the start cycle by switching the required circuits in a set order, instead of leaving every action to separate manual commands. In a typical installation, the panel works with the aircraft DC power system, starter-generator, ignition equipment, fuel valve circuits and cockpit start controls. It is not just a switch box. It contains the timing and switching equipment needed to run the start sequence.

Start sequence control through PSG-15 / PSG-15M

During engine start, the PSG-15 / PSG-15M coordinates the main start events: starter-generator operation in starter mode, ignition activation, fuel valve control and automatic cut-off at the end of the cycle. The exact wiring depends on the aircraft and engine type, but the operating idea is the same. The panel starts the timed program, feeds the required circuits, then removes start power when the start cycle is complete or when abnormal conditions require interruption. This is why the panel must be matched with the aircraft electrical diagram, not only by name.

PSG-15 / PSG-15M with starter-generators and ignition units

The panel works with starter-generators such as GS-18TO and GS-18MO, depending on the aircraft version. In helicopter installations, it is linked with ignition units, electromagnetic fuel valve blocks, relays, start buttons and engine control circuits. On Mi-8 systems, PSG-15M is documented as part of the engine start equipment together with GS-18TO starter-generators, SKNA-22-2A ignition units, electromagnetic valve blocks and the I-2 impulsator. The panel does not generate starting torque by itself. It commands and sequences the equipment that performs the start.

Aircraft application of PSG-15 / PSG-15M

The PSG-15 / PSG-15M is used on aircraft and helicopters with Soviet-type engine start architecture, including Mi-8, Mi-2, An-24, An-26 and Yak-40 applications. It is associated with TV2-117, TV3-117, AI-24 and AI-25 engine systems, depending on the platform. In real fleets, the installed version may differ after overhaul or equipment replacement. Some aircraft use the base PSG-15 panel, while later or modified installations may use PSG-15M. Before ordering a replacement, the installed marking, wiring connectors and start system drawing should be checked.

Identification and ordering of PSG-15 / PSG-15M

The PSG-15 and PSG-15M should be selected by data plate marking, aircraft type, engine type and starter-generator configuration. The programmed mechanism inside the panel is also important. Open technical descriptions show PSG-15 with the PMZh2-60 program mechanism, while PSG-15M installations may use a different timing mechanism, such as 2PM8060A. This difference matters during repair and when sourcing internal parts. For a correct quote, it is useful to provide a photo of the nameplate, aircraft type, engine type, installed starter-generator and any number from the aircraft parts catalog. The product is also known under alternative designations PSG-15, PSG-15M, ПСГ-15 and ПСГ-15М.
