RU-2 aircraft control handle overview

The RU-2 is an aircraft control handle used for remote electrical command input in aircraft control systems. It is made as a hand grip with built-in push-buttons, normally operated by the fingers of the pilot’s right hand. The handle is not a flight control column by itself. It is the grip installed on a control station or control lever, where it adds electrical switching functions to the mechanical control assembly. In service, RU-2 is checked not only as a handle, but also as a switching unit with contacts, wiring harness, and button travel.

Electrical command input through RU-2

During operation, the RU-2 lets the pilot send commands to connected onboard electrical circuits without removing a hand from the control. The buttons in the grip are used for remote switching of selected systems, depending on the aircraft wiring. The exact connected functions depend on the aircraft type and installation diagram. A failed command is not always caused by the handle body. It may come from worn button contacts, a damaged harness, poor connector condition, or an issue further down the circuit.

The RU-2 handle includes push-button elements used for electrical switching. Technical descriptions mention buttons with normally open KR contacts and a 2KPP two-pole sequential switching button. These elements have different current limits depending on whether the load is resistive or inductive. For maintenance, this is important because the handle may look mechanically serviceable while the electrical contacts do not meet the required condition. Contact voltage drop, button travel, harness continuity, and adjustment should be checked according to the documentation.

The RU-2 is used in domestic aircraft control systems where manual command input has to remain available under vibration and load conditions. It can be fitted as part of a larger control assembly, including helicopter control columns and pilot control stations. One common related assembly is the right-hand control column 8A-5101-110-5, where the RU-2 handle is installed together with a wiring harness. Exact use should be checked by the aircraft parts catalog, because similar handles may differ by wiring, button set, or connected functions.

Identification and ordering checks for RU-2

Before ordering, the marking on the installed handle should be compared with the aircraft documentation, passport, or operating manual. In English-language requests, the handle is usually written as RU-2. In Russian documentation, the same item is written as РУ-2. A clean request should specify whether the complete handle, wiring harness, spare buttons, or adjustment tool is required. The product is also known under alternative designation РУ-2.
