Description

KAU-115 combined hydraulic control unit for helicopter systems

The KAU-115 is a combined hydraulic control unit used in helicopter flight control systems. It moves the working elements of the rotor control system through hydraulic power, while still remaining part of the pilot’s mechanical control chain. This is not a simple hydraulic cylinder and not only a booster. The unit combines mechanical-hydraulic control with the ability to receive correction signals from the flight-navigation complex, depending on the helicopter configuration.

Mechanical-hydraulic control through KAU-115

In normal operation, KAU-115 transfers pilot control input into movement of the connected control mechanism. Hydraulic pressure reduces the load required to move the rotor control elements and gives the system the force needed for stable control. The unit can work in a mechanical-hydraulic mode, where pilot input is transmitted through the control linkage, and in a combined mode, where electrical correction signals are added through the onboard flight-navigation equipment. The exact control logic depends on the installed system and aircraft documentation.

Flight control channels with KAU-115 installed

The KAU-115 is used in the longitudinal, lateral, directional, and collective pitch control channels. In these channels, it works with control rods, hydraulic supply and drain lines, flight control linkages, feedback elements, and the aircraft’s automatic correction circuits. If a control channel behaves incorrectly, the reason is not always the KAU unit itself. Maintenance checks usually include hydraulic pressure, linkage travel, fluid condition, drain pressure, signal wiring, control forces, and the condition of connected mechanical parts.

Helicopter application of hydraulic unit KAU-115

The unit is used on helicopters of the Mi-8 / Mi-17 family and related models. Listed applications include Mi-8MTV-1, Mi-171, Mi-172, Mi-6, and Mi-10. Open catalog references describe KAU-115AM as a unit for the rotor system control channels and as an item powered by two independent helicopter hydraulic systems. Exact installation and interchangeability should still be checked by the aircraft parts catalog, because helicopters may differ by modification, repair history, and installed control system standard.

Identification and ordering checks for KAU-115

Before ordering, the installed unit marking should be compared with the aircraft passport, parts catalog, or official technical documentation. Related designations may include KAU115, KAU 115, KAU-115A, KAU115A, KAU 115A, KAU-115AM, KAU115AM, and KAU 115AM. These names are often used for the same product family, but the required variant should be confirmed by aircraft documentation before supply. The product is also known under alternative Russian designations КАУ-115, КАУ-115А, and КАУ-115АМ.
