Description

UT-6D linear aircraft electromechanism

UT-6D is an aircraft linear electromechanism used for remote control of trim tabs on aircraft and helicopters. The unit converts electrical energy from the onboard DC system into linear movement of its rack, which then moves the connected trim tab linkage. In the supplied context, UT-6D is associated with trim control of ailerons, rudder and elevator surfaces. The mechanism is installed inside control surfaces or close to the trim tab it operates, depending on aircraft structure and maintenance documentation.

Full descriptionCollapse description

Function of UT-6D in trim control systems

The main function of UT-6D is to move a trim tab to reduce control forces and help maintain the required aircraft attitude without constant pilot input. The mechanism receives an electrical command from cockpit trim switches and moves its rack in the required direction. This movement is transferred through linkage to the trim tab. The system allows remote trim adjustment in roll, pitch or yaw channels, depending on where the mechanism is installed.

UT-6D installation on control surfaces

UT-6D mechanisms are installed inside movable control surfaces, near the trim tabs they actuate. In the supplied context, the An-2 aircraft is given as a typical example where three UT-6D units are installed: in the left aileron, in the rudder and in the left half of the elevator. Access for inspection, adjustment and replacement is provided through service panels on the skin of the ailerons and tail control surfaces. Exact location and quantity must be confirmed by the aircraft maintenance manual.

Construction of the UT-6D actuator

The UT-6D mechanism has a sealed screened housing and can operate in vertical, horizontal or inclined positions. Its construction includes a reversible DC motor, reduction gear train, friction clutch, rack and contact device. The reduction gearbox decreases motor speed and converts rotation into rack movement. The friction clutch limits excessive load and protects the actuator and connected trim mechanism. The rack is positioned at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the mechanism, according to the supplied context.

Neutral position indication

UT-6D includes a contact device used to provide a signal for the trim neutral position lamp. This allows the cockpit indication system to show when the trim tab is set to its neutral position. The neutral indication circuit is important during aircraft preparation, control checks and in-flight trim operation. During maintenance, technicians should check rack movement, neutral contact operation, wiring condition, travel timing, linkage adjustment and the mechanical condition of the trim tab itself.

Identification and ordering of UT-6D

Before ordering UT-6D, the buyer should confirm the aircraft type, installation channel, required quantity, condition and documentation set. It is also important to clarify whether the unit is required for an aileron trim tab, rudder trim tab or elevator trim tab. UT-6D may be required for An-2 trim system repair, replacement of a defective actuator, aircraft maintenance stock or support of light aircraft modernization. Product passport, test records, connector condition and rack travel should be checked before shipment.
