Description

KT158-040 support disc in the Il-76 brake system

KT158-040 is an aircraft brake support disc used as a closing element in the friction disc pack of the KT158-030 main disc brake. The brake is installed inside the KT158.010 main wheel on the Il-76 landing gear wheel-brake system. The support disc receives axial force from the brake cylinder pistons when hydraulic pressure is applied and helps compress the complete brake disc pack. It is a separate brake component and should not be confused with the wheel assembly or the complete KT158-030 brake.

Brake pack function of KT158-040

The KT158-040 disc works inside the multi-disc hydraulic brake assembly. During braking, AMG-10 hydraulic fluid pressure acts on the brake pistons, which press against the disc pack. The support disc closes the pack and transfers the compression force through the friction stack. This allows the brake to generate the friction torque required to slow the aircraft during landing rollout, taxiing or rejected takeoff conditions. Correct condition of the support disc is important for even brake pack compression and stable brake performance.

KT158-040 as a stationary support element

KT158-040 is described as a stationary support disc. It is fixed in the brake body and does not rotate together with the wheel. The disc has internal splines or seating grooves that engage with the longitudinal guides of the KT158-030 brake body. This prevents rotation of the disc relative to the wheel axis and keeps the support element aligned inside the brake assembly. The disc works with rotating metal-ceramic discs and stationary bimetallic discs that form the complete friction package.

Material and operating conditions of KT158-040

The KT158-040 support disc operates under high thermal and mechanical loads. The source context describes the disc as made from high-strength structural steel with heat-resistant and anti-corrosion coating. Friction metal-ceramic elements may be applied to the working surface depending on the specific disc design and brake pack configuration. During severe braking, the disc is exposed to high alternating thermal loads and friction heating. For this reason, the part is subject to inspection for wear, deformation, scoring and cracks during brake maintenance.

Maintenance and replacement of KT158-040

KT158-040 is a wear-related component of the KT158-030 brake pack. During overhaul or scheduled maintenance of KT158.010 wheels and KT158-030 brakes, the support disc should be inspected according to the applicable repair and maintenance documentation. Replacement may be required if the disc has critical reduction of thickness, excessive wear of the friction surface, deep scoring, seizure marks, warping, loss of flatness or cracks near the internal spline area. The disc should be assessed together with the full brake disc set.

Identification and ordering of KT158-040

Before ordering KT158-040, it is important to confirm whether the customer needs the support disc only or a complete brake disc package for KT158-030. Related components may include KT126-120 rotating metal-ceramic discs and N8U.097-410-15 stationary bimetallic discs. The buyer should also confirm the aircraft type, brake assembly, required quantity, condition category and documentation requirements. The item may be supplied for brake overhaul, maintenance stock, replacement of worn disc-pack elements or restoration of the Il-76 wheel-brake assembly.
