Description
Purpose and application
GMI-42B is a pulse modulator triode with a protective grid for switching pulse power in modulators of stationary and mobile radio equipment. It is rated for anode voltage up to 30 kV and pulse anode current up to 30 A.

Construction
The metal-ceramic tube uses an indirectly heated oxide cathode and a radial external radiator. Heater voltage is 24.2–27.8 V and current is 3.2–3.6 A. The ceramic insulator, radiator and contact geometry are important identification features.
Operating data
Input capacitance is 130 pF, output capacitance 25 pF and transfer capacitance no more than 2 pF. Maximum anode dissipation is 500 W and grid dissipation 25 W. Readiness time depends on the mode and is approximately two to three minutes.
Cooling and selection
Forced-air cooling is mandatory. Maximum envelope temperature is 150 °C, dimensions are no more than approximately 135 × 92 mm, mass is no more than 1.2 kg and minimum service life is 1000 hours. Before installation, check airflow, ceramic surfaces and terminals.
