GMI-38
Pulse modulator triode
Description
Purpose and application
GMI-38 is a compact pulse modulator triode used as a switching element in pulse modulators. It forms short, high-current pulses for the following generator stage and is selected by its electrical mode and mounting geometry.
Full descriptionCollapse description
Construction
The metal-glass construction has an external metal body, a glass-to-metal seal and robust electrode terminals. Heater voltage is 24.2–27.8 V and current is 3.1 ± 0.2 A. Its compact dimensions distinguish it from larger forced-air modulator tubes.
Operating data
Pulse anode current is at least 20 A at a heater voltage of 26 V and at least 17.5 A at 24.2 V. Input capacitance is 120 pF, output capacitance 20 pF and transfer capacitance no more than 1.2 pF. Readiness time is no more than three minutes.
Cooling and selection
The tube can use natural or forced-air cooling according to the installation. Maximum envelope temperature is 175 °C, ambient range is −60 to +70 °C, dimensions are approximately 145 × 82 mm, mass is about 470 g and service life is at least 1000 hours.
Vacuum device construction is outlined in the vacuum tube article. Related devices are listed under generator and modulator tubes.
