GMI-2B
High-power pulse modulator tetrode
Description
Purpose and application
GMI-2B is a high-power pulse modulator tetrode intended for modulators that operate by partially discharging a storage capacitor. It switches the accumulated energy into a controlled high-voltage pulse and must be selected for the exact modulator circuit.
Full descriptionCollapse description
Construction
The large glass envelope contains an indirectly heated oxide cathode and a broad internal electrode system. Heater voltage is 23.7–26.3 V and current is 17.5 ± 1.7 A. The tube can operate in any position, provided that the specified cooling airflow is maintained.
Operating data
Pulse anode current is at least 90 A and average anode current is at least 140 mA. Input capacitance is 350 pF, output capacitance 120 pF and transfer capacitance no more than 10 pF. Minimum service life is 400 hours.
Cooling and selection
Forced-air cooling with an airflow of approximately 200 m³/h is required. Overall dimensions are about 285 × 210 mm and mass is approximately 5.5 kg. Before installation, inspect the glass, top contact, base and pins and verify the grid-bias circuit.
Vacuum device construction is outlined in the vacuum tube article. Related devices are listed under generator and modulator tubes.
