Description

NSH-40 in hydraulic systems of mobile machinery

The NSH-40 is a gear-type hydraulic pump designed to supply working fluid under pressure in hydraulic systems of earthmoving, road-building, agricultural, all-terrain and special-purpose machinery. It is used where a compact and simple hydraulic power source is required for cylinders, hydraulic motors, steering units and other hydraulic consumers. The pump works with mineral oil and is intended for continuous operation in mobile equipment exposed to vibration, dust, temperature changes and variable load.

Hydraulic flow generation by the NSH-40 pump

The main function of the NSH-40 is to create hydraulic flow by rotating a pair of gears inside the pump body. As the drive shaft rotates, the gears move oil from the suction side to the pressure side of the pump. This flow is then supplied to the hydraulic system, where pressure is created by the load in the circuit. The pump is not a pressure regulator by itself; it provides flow, while system pressure depends on the hydraulic consumers, valves, load and relief valve setting.

NSH-40 as a gear hydraulic pump

The NSH-40 belongs to the group of external gear pumps. This design is widely used in mobile machinery because it is simple, compact and service-friendly. The working displacement of the pump is 40 cm³ per revolution. Gear pumps of this type are suitable for hydraulic systems where reliability and ease of replacement are more important than complex variable-displacement control. At the same time, the pump requires clean oil, correct suction conditions and protection from excessive pressure.

Right-hand and left-hand rotation of NSH-40

When selecting an NSH-40 pump, rotation direction must be checked before purchase. The standard NSH-40 version is usually right-hand rotation, with the shaft rotating clockwise when viewed from the shaft side. The left-hand version is normally marked as NSH-40L. These versions are not interchangeable without changing the hydraulic layout, because incorrect rotation can cause the pump to fail to supply oil and may quickly damage the unit. The old pump marking and machine documentation should be checked before installation.

Working fluids for the NSH-40

The NSH-40 works with mineral oils used in hydraulic systems. Supplied reference data includes M-10V oil, spindle oil and hydraulic oil. The exact oil grade should be selected according to the machine documentation and operating temperature. Oil cleanliness is important for gear pump service life. Dirt, metal particles, water contamination or incorrect viscosity can increase wear, reduce efficiency and cause leakage. Before installing a new pump, the hydraulic tank, filters and suction line should be checked.

NSH-40 application in road, agricultural and special machinery

The NSH-40 is commonly used in hydraulic systems of converted military or special machinery, earthmoving equipment, road machines, agricultural machines and all-terrain vehicles. It may supply hydraulic cylinders, lifting equipment, steering circuits, auxiliary hydraulic drives and other consumers depending on machine layout. Since the pump has fixed displacement, flow increases with shaft speed. Correct matching of pump rotation, shaft, flange, working pressure and hydraulic circuit is necessary for reliable operation.

Installation and operation of NSH-40

The NSH-40 is mechanically driven from the machine gearbox, power take-off, engine drive or another drive point depending on equipment design. During installation, the drive shaft, coupling, flange, seals, suction line and pressure line must be checked. The suction line should not be restricted, and the pump should not run dry. First start-up should be done with oil in the system and with the relief valve correctly set. Running the pump without oil or against a closed pressure line can damage it very quickly.

Supply and inspection of NSH-40

For procurement, the required version should be specified clearly: NSH-40 for right-hand rotation or NSH-40L for left-hand rotation. Additional details such as flange type, shaft type and required manufacturer version should be confirmed if the machine uses a specific mounting arrangement. Before installation, the pump should be inspected for housing damage, shaft condition, rotation direction, port cleanliness, sealing surfaces and preservation state. After installation, leakage, pressure, flow and abnormal noise should be checked during operation.
