The LUN 6102.01-8 is a Czech-made variable piston hydraulic pump used in aircraft hydraulic systems. It is designed to generate and maintain hydraulic pressure for onboard consumers such as landing gear, flaps, brakes and other hydraulic units. The pump is best known for application on L-410 “Turbolet” twin-engine regional aircraft, where it operates as part of the main hydraulic system. In documentation and supply requests, the unit may also be written as ЛУН-6102.01-8 or LUN 6102.01-8.
The main function of the LUN 6102.01-8 is to supply working fluid under pressure to the aircraft hydraulic system. The pump maintains nominal pressure and changes delivery according to system demand. When hydraulic consumers require flow, the pump supplies fluid to the pressure line. When system demand decreases, the pump reduces delivery to avoid unnecessary loading and overheating. This makes it suitable for aircraft hydraulic systems where pressure must be available without continuous maximum-flow operation.
The LUN 6102.01-8 is an axial piston pump with variable delivery. This design allows the pump to automatically adjust working volume depending on hydraulic system consumption. It is a compact aviation hydraulic unit intended for stable pressure generation rather than simple oil transfer. Clean hydraulic fluid, correct inlet conditions and proper filtration are important for pump life. Contamination, air in the suction line or incorrect fluid can cause noise, pressure instability, overheating and wear of the piston group.
On L-410 aircraft, the LUN 6102.01-8 is installed on the accessory gearbox of the Walter M601 turboprop engine. The gearbox is located at the rear section of the engine, and the pump receives mechanical drive from the engine through the gearbox. In the typical L-410 hydraulic layout, the main hydraulic pump is mounted on the right engine. During engine operation, the pump shaft is driven mechanically and supplies pressure to the aircraft hydraulic system throughout flight and ground operation.
The LUN 6102.01-8 is used in the main hydraulic system of L-410 aircraft of different modifications. The hydraulic system supplies pressure for landing gear extension and retraction, flap operation, wheel braking and other aircraft hydraulic functions depending on the specific model. In addition to the engine-driven pump, the aircraft may have an emergency hand pump from the LUN 6100 series in the cockpit. This hand pump provides backup pressure if the main hydraulic pressure source is unavailable.
The pump operates with AMG-10 aviation hydraulic oil according to GOST 6794-75. It is designed to maintain a working pressure of approximately 150 kgf/cm², equal to about 15 MPa or 150 bar. The automatic regulation system changes pump delivery depending on current hydraulic demand. Since the pump is part of the aircraft main hydraulic system, correct fluid grade, cleanliness and pressure setting must be observed according to L-410 maintenance documentation.
Besides L-410 aircraft, the LUN 6102.01-8 may be certified for installation on the accessory gearbox of the ASh-62IR-M18 piston aircraft engine used on agricultural aircraft such as the PZL M18 Dromader. Exact installation should always be confirmed by the aircraft and engine documentation, because drive interface, flange, spline, hydraulic connections and system requirements may differ between platforms. The pump designation should be checked against the aircraft parts catalog before procurement or replacement.
For procurement, the full designation LUN 6102.01-8 / ЛУН-6102.01-8 should be specified. The pump may be supplied new, from storage, repaired, overhauled or tested serviceable depending on availability. Before installation, the unit should be inspected for housing condition, drive shaft, splines, flange surfaces, port threads, seals, leakage traces, corrosion, preservation condition and internal cleanliness. For aircraft use, bench testing is recommended to confirm pressure, delivery, regulation and leakage level with AMG-10 hydraulic oil.
