The ECNG-5 is a sealed electric centrifugal pump intended for transfer and supply of aviation fuel, water, liquid chemical solutions and other compatible low-viscosity liquids. In aviation use, the pump is mainly installed inside aircraft fuel tanks and works as part of fuel transfer, booster supply or circulation systems. The unit is built as a compact monoblock pump with a DC electric motor and a sealed hydraulic section, allowing it to operate directly in the tank environment.
In aircraft fuel systems, the ECNG-5 provides fuel movement from tank sections to downstream fuel-system elements. It can be used to create the required inlet pressure before main engine booster pumps, transfer fuel between internal tanks, support correct fuel distribution and assist the operation of jet pumps in tank systems. Depending on aircraft design, the pump may also participate in fuel jettison or emergency drain circuits. Its nominal delivery makes it suitable for systems where steady tank fuel movement is required.
The ECNG-5 is designed for installation directly inside the fuel tank. This arrangement saves space, reduces the number of external fuel lines and lowers the risk of leakage outside the tank. For aircraft fuel systems, in-tank placement is practical because the pump works close to the fuel volume it must move. The sealed design is especially important in this configuration, since the electric motor and hydraulic part operate in an environment where fuel and fuel vapor may be present.
The ECNG-5 is a hermetic monoblock unit. The pump section and the DC motor are combined into one compact assembly, while the sealed construction prevents the pumped liquid or fuel vapor from entering the motor cavity. In this type of pump, torque transmission may be arranged without a conventional shaft seal, depending on the specific modification. This reduces leakage risk and improves safety in tank installation. During inspection, sealing condition, housing integrity, connector condition and mounting surfaces are the main points to check.
The ECNG-5 operates from the aircraft DC electrical system, typically 27 V. The motor drives the centrifugal impeller at high rotational speed, providing the required flow and outlet pressure. The pump is compact, but its operating speed is high, so correct current consumption, smooth rotation and clean liquid flow are important. If the inlet is restricted, the fuel is contaminated or the motor draws abnormal current, the pump may lose performance or overheat. Testing should therefore include both electrical and hydraulic parameters.
The ECNG-5 series includes related versions such as ECNG-5-2 and ECNG-5-S62. These modifications may differ by pressure, dimensions, mounting interface, motor version or aircraft application. Although they belong to the same general family of sealed centrifugal pumps, they should not be treated as automatically interchangeable. For supply or replacement, the exact designation must be checked against the aircraft parts catalog, fuel system diagram and maintenance documentation.
The main application of ECNG-5 is aviation equipment, including aircraft and helicopter fuel systems such as those used on Mi-26 and other platforms depending on configuration. Outside direct fuel-system use, the pump family may also be used in special technical systems for clean water, liquid chemicals or pesticide solutions where sealed pumping and compact dimensions are required. In aircraft use, however, the exact pump version, installation place, electrical interface and documentation must always be verified before installation.
For procurement, the pump should be requested by its full designation: ECNG-5 / ЭЦНГ-5. It is also important to specify the required modification, aircraft type, condition and available documentation. Before installation, the pump should be checked for flow rate, outlet pressure, current consumption, rotation, sealing and connector condition. For fuel tank installation, external appearance is not enough to confirm suitability; the pump must meet the required hydraulic and electrical parameters for the aircraft system.
