P-503B is an onboard aircraft wire tape recorder designed for magnetic recording of audio signals received by the left pilot’s headset from internal and external communication circuits of helicopter radio equipment, as well as speech transmitted by the pilot. The recorder is used as part of airborne voice recording equipment and provides continuous capture of crew communication during flight. It records voice information and associated time signals on a wire recording medium for later playback, technical analysis or investigation.
The P-503B recorder captures audio information from onboard communication circuits, including signals received through the aircraft intercom and radio communication systems. It records speech transmitted by the pilot and audio received in the pilot’s headset, allowing the system to preserve operational communication during flight. This makes the recorder part of the aircraft voice registration system, where the main purpose is to document crew communication and time-related information during aircraft operation.
The P-503B uses a thin wire recording medium rather than magnetic tape or solid-state memory. Recording is performed on a wire medium with a specified diameter and recording speed. The system operates in continuous mode and provides not less than 9 hours of recording duration. This wire-based recording principle is characteristic of earlier onboard voice recorder systems used on helicopters and other aircraft before the wider adoption of modern solid-state recorders.
The P-503B is supplied as a system that includes the UZ P-503B recording unit, PU P-503B control panel, mounting frame, wire cassette and related accessories. The recording unit performs the actual magnetic wire recording process, while the control panel provides operational control of the system. The cassette contains the recording wire, and the mounting frame provides mechanical installation of the equipment on the aircraft. The exact scope of supply should be checked against the product passport and supply specification.
The P-503B recorder is installed on helicopters equipped with onboard radio communication systems. It operates as part of helicopter onboard communication and voice recording equipment. The installation area and mounting arrangement depend on the aircraft type, modification and technical documentation. In service, the recorder should be checked together with the aircraft intercom system, radio communication circuits, recording unit, control panel, wire cassette, power supply and installation hardware.
The recorder may be referenced as P-503B or П-503Б. These designations refer to the same onboard wire tape recorder system. For correct supply, it is useful to specify the aircraft type, installed recorder configuration, required condition, completeness of the set, cassette requirements and documentation availability. If individual components are required, the request should identify whether the required item is the complete P-503B recorder, UZ P-503B recording unit, PU P-503B control panel, wire cassette or spare parts kit.
