Baklan-20D is an onboard VHF aircraft radio station designed to provide simplex radiotelephone communication between aircraft crews, helicopters and ground air traffic control services. The radio station is used on aircraft and helicopters requiring reliable voice communication in the civil aviation VHF band. Typical application may include aircraft such as An-12 and other platforms equipped with compatible VHF radio communication systems according to aircraft documentation.
The Baklan-20D radio station operates in the aviation VHF frequency range and provides communication between aircraft and ground services, as well as between aircraft in flight. The “D” version is associated with an extended operating frequency range and support for both 8.33 kHz and 25 kHz channel spacing. This allows the station to meet modern channel spacing requirements used in international and European airspace, depending on aircraft certification and installed configuration.
Baklan-20D supports rapid switching to the international emergency frequency 121.500 MHz. The remote control panel includes an emergency switch for quick selection of the emergency channel when required during flight. This function supports crew access to emergency communication without manual frequency selection through the normal tuning process. Actual operation should be checked according to the aircraft wiring and radio station operating documentation.
Frequency selection and radio station control are performed through the remote control panel installed in the cockpit. The panel allows the crew to set the communication frequency, control operating functions and manage the noise suppressor and audio level where applicable. After frequency selection, the radio station performs automatic tuning to the selected channel. This arrangement allows the main transceiver and auxiliary units to remain installed outside the cockpit while the crew retains direct operational control.
A standard Baklan-20D set may include the main transceiver, remote control panel, additional low-frequency amplifier, shock-mount frame, interconnecting cable set and connectors. The transceiver performs RF generation, modulation, reception and signal processing. The remote control panel provides cockpit control. The additional low-frequency amplifier supports audio signal output to the aircraft intercom system or crew headsets. The shock-mount frame provides mechanical installation and vibration protection of the radio equipment.
Baklan-20D equipment is installed according to aircraft documentation. The transceiver, low-frequency amplifier and mounting frame are normally installed in the radio equipment compartment, while the remote control panel is installed in the cockpit. The aircraft VHF antenna with 50 Ohm impedance is usually part of the aircraft equipment and may not be included in the standard radio station supply set. For correct supply, it is useful to specify the aircraft type, required set configuration, single or paired installation, remote control panel part number, frame version, condition and documentation requirements.
