Automatic Radio Compass
Available on back-order
ARK-15M Version 14 is an airborne automatic radio compass used for determining the relative bearing to ground-based radio beacons and broadcast stations. The system operates in low and medium frequency bands and provides continuous bearing information for aircraft navigation. It is used as part of onboard radio navigation equipment and supports route guidance, radio beacon tracking and instrument flight procedures. The system is also known under the designations ARK-15M, АРК-15М and Variant 14.
The ARK-15M receives signals from non-directional beacons and other suitable radio transmitters, then processes these signals to determine the course angle or relative bearing to the station. The calculated bearing is transmitted to cockpit indication equipment, allowing the crew to track radio stations and maintain navigation awareness. This function is important during en-route navigation, approach procedures and operation in conditions where visual references are limited. Stable system performance depends on correct antenna operation, receiver tuning, power supply and indicator integration.
ARK-15M Version 14 covers a wide frequency range divided into multiple operating ranges. The system uses fine frequency channel spacing and automatic tuning accuracy suitable for radio compass operation. It works in the frequency band used by NDB navigation and broadcast stations and provides bearing determination with specified accuracy. The radio compass must retune quickly enough for operational use and maintain reliable reception under aircraft vibration, temperature variation and humidity. These parameters are controlled through the system documentation and aircraft maintenance procedures.
The ARK-15M automatic radio compass is used on helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft equipped with compatible radio navigation systems. Typical application includes Mi-8, Mi-17 and Mi-171 helicopters, as well as aircraft such as MiG-29, Su-27, An-2 and Yak-52, depending on the installed avionics configuration. Since aircraft may differ by modification, electrical system, cockpit indication equipment and modernization status, applicability should be confirmed by the aircraft equipment list, wiring documentation and maintenance manual before supply or installation.
The ARK-15M Version 14 set includes receiver, antenna, control and matching components. The receiver unit processes radio signals, the loop antenna receives directional signal information, the control panel allows frequency and mode selection, and the matching unit supports correct antenna-system interface. Version 14 differs by installation configuration and adaptation to specific aircraft electrical systems. For replacement or restoration, it is important to check not only the main unit designation, but also the complete delivery set and aircraft installation kit.
Before ordering ARK-15M Version 14, the aircraft type, required version, delivery set, condition and documentation requirements should be confirmed. The system may be supplied as a complete radio compass set or as individual components such as the receiver unit, loop antenna unit, control panel, matching unit or installation kit. For acceptance, the buyer should clarify passport availability, test records, serviceability documents, connector condition and compatibility with the aircraft electrical and indication systems.
