The 11TF30SM is an aircraft fuel filter designed to remove mechanical contaminants from aviation fuel in onboard fuel systems. It is installed in the fuel line where fuel requires coarse purification before it reaches pumps, valves, metering units and other downstream equipment. The filter helps protect fuel-system components from solid particles that may come from the tank, pipelines, servicing operations or long-term storage contamination.
The main function of the 11TF30SM is filtration of aviation fuel from mechanical impurities. In the system, it performs coarse fuel purification and helps maintain stable fuel flow through fuel-system channels. Clean fuel is important for reliable operation of pumps, valves and control units. If mechanical particles pass further into the system, they may cause wear, unstable operation, blocked passages or incorrect fuel delivery. For this reason, filter condition should be monitored during maintenance.
The 11TF30SM is used after the fuel tank or in another line position specified by the aircraft fuel system documentation. Fuel leaving the tank may contain solid particles, deposits, pipeline residue or contamination introduced during refueling and maintenance. The filter captures these contaminants before they reach more sensitive system units. Exact installation should always be checked against the aircraft fuel system diagram, because the same filter designation may appear in different positions depending on the aircraft layout.
The 11TF30SM uses a regenerable filter element with designation 340.146. This element provides the required filtration fineness and can be serviced according to the applicable maintenance procedure. During inspection, the filter element should be checked for contamination, deformation, damaged filtering surface, blocked mesh and correct seating in the housing. Poor installation or damaged sealing can reduce filtration quality even if the element itself appears clean.
The filter assembly includes a bypass valve and a drain device. The bypass valve opens when pressure differential across the filter reaches the specified value, helping maintain fuel flow if the filter element becomes restricted. This protects the system from complete fuel starvation, but fuel quality may be reduced during bypass operation. The drain device is used for removal of fuel and accumulated contaminants during servicing. Both elements should be checked together with the housing and filter element.
The 11TF30SM is rated for a specific flow rate, operating pressure and hydraulic resistance. A clean filter should create only limited pressure drop in the fuel line. If resistance is higher than allowed, the cause may be contamination, incorrect cleaning, internal blockage or damage to the filter element. A filter can look acceptable externally but still restrict fuel flow inside. For serviceability, visual inspection should be combined with hydraulic checks according to the applicable documentation.
The 11TF30SM is the base designation of the filter family, while versions such as 11TF30SM-0 and 11TF30SM-1 may have different dimensions or installation features. The same filter element designation may be used across related versions, but the complete filter assembly must match the installation. For procurement, the exact marking, suffix, dimensions, fittings and aircraft documentation should be checked before shipment. A similar designation should not be treated as automatically interchangeable.
For procurement or replacement, the full designation 11TF30SM should be specified. It is important to confirm whether the filter is supplied as a complete assembly with regenerable element, bypass valve and drain device. Before installation, the unit should be checked for housing condition, fitting condition, sealing surfaces, filter element condition, bypass valve operation, drain device condition and compatibility with the aircraft fuel system. Technical documentation should be confirmed where available.
