The 11TF30SM-0 is an aircraft fuel filter designed to remove mechanical contaminants from aviation fuel. It is installed in onboard fuel systems where fuel must be cleaned before it reaches downstream components. The filter helps protect pumps, valves, fuel metering equipment and other fuel-system units from solid particles that may enter the system from tanks, pipelines or service operations. Its role is simple but important: keep the fuel flow clean enough for stable operation of the aircraft fuel system.
The main task of the 11TF30SM-0 is filtration of aviation fuel from mechanical impurities. In the fuel line, it performs coarse or primary purification depending on the system layout. The filter removes solid particles and may also help separate small amounts of residual contamination carried with the fuel. If filtration is poor, downstream equipment can suffer from increased wear, unstable operation, blocked channels or incorrect fuel delivery. For this reason, the filter element condition and pressure drop across the filter should be monitored during service.
The 11TF30SM-0 is used in the fuel system after the fuel tank or in another line position defined by the aircraft documentation. In this location, it protects the equipment installed further downstream in the fuel feed path. Fuel leaving the tank may contain mechanical particles from tank surfaces, refueling operations, pipeline residues or long-term storage contamination. The filter reduces the risk of these particles reaching more sensitive fuel-system units. Exact installation point should always be checked by the fuel system diagram of the aircraft.
The filter uses a regenerable filter element with designation 340.146. A regenerable element can be serviced according to the applicable maintenance procedure instead of being treated only as a disposable part. This is useful in aircraft operation, but it also means the element must be cleaned, inspected and reinstalled correctly. Damage, deformation, blocked mesh, poor sealing or incorrect installation can reduce filtration quality or increase hydraulic resistance. The element should be checked together with the filter housing and bypass valve.
The 11TF30SM-0 filter assembly includes a bypass valve and a drain device. The bypass valve is needed to protect the fuel supply path if the filter element becomes clogged and pressure differential rises above the specified limit. This prevents complete fuel starvation through the line, but it also means fuel may pass with reduced filtration quality during bypass operation. The drain device is used for maintenance and removal of fuel or contaminants from the filter body. Both elements should be inspected during servicing.
The filter is rated for a defined flow rate, operating pressure and hydraulic resistance. A clean filter should create only a small pressure drop in the fuel line. If resistance increases, this may indicate contamination, blocked filter media, incorrect cleaning or internal damage. During checks, technicians should compare pressure drop and flow behavior against the technical documentation. A filter that looks clean externally can still be restricted internally, so serviceability should be judged by inspection and hydraulic performance, not appearance alone.
For procurement or replacement, the full designation 11TF30SM-0 should be specified, together with the required condition and documentation. It is also important to confirm whether the filter is supplied as a complete assembly with the regenerable element, bypass valve and drain device. Before installation, the unit should be checked for housing condition, thread and fitting condition, sealing surfaces, filter element condition, bypass valve operation, drain device condition and compatibility with the aircraft fuel system.
