Potentiometric overload sensor
The MP-95 (−3.5+10) is a potentiometric aircraft overload sensor designed to measure linear acceleration acting on the aircraft structure. It is used in onboard measurement and flight parameter recording systems, where overload values must be converted into an electrical signal for further processing and registration. The sensor does not record data by itself. Its role is to provide a resistance output proportional to the measured acceleration.
This version of the MP-95 is intended for an extended asymmetric overload range from −3.5 g to +10 g. The marking “−3.5+10” identifies the measuring limits of the specific execution. Compared with lower-range versions, this sensor is used where larger positive acceleration values and deeper negative acceleration values must be registered. Because MP-95 sensors may look similar externally, the exact range must be checked before replacement or supply.
The MP-95 converts mechanical movement caused by acceleration into a change in electrical resistance. Under overload, the internal sensing element moves, and the potentiometer produces a resistance value corresponding to the applied acceleration. This output is then used by onboard recording or measurement equipment. Correct operation depends on the sensor range, calibration, wiring, connector condition and compatibility with the receiving channel of the aircraft recording system.
The sensor is primarily used in automatic flight parameter recording systems. It provides overload data to the aircraft recording channel, where the signal is stored together with other flight parameters. These data may be used for routine technical analysis, operational monitoring and investigation of abnormal flight conditions. If recorded overload values are incorrect, the fault may be in the sensor, but it may also come from mounting position, wiring, recorder calibration or the receiving circuit.
The MP-95 must be installed according to the required measurement axis and aircraft documentation. Since it is a mechanical-electrical measuring device, condition checks should include both the housing and the internal sensing behavior. Before installation, the unit should be checked for correct marking, range identification, connector condition, mechanical damage, output resistance behavior and compatibility with the target system. External appearance alone is not enough to confirm serviceability.
For procurement or replacement, the full designation MP-95 (−3.5+10) / МП-95 (−3.5+10) should be specified. The required condition, aircraft application and documentation should also be confirmed before shipment. If the unit is supplied from storage or after inspection, the passport and test status should be reviewed carefully. For aircraft use, sensor passport or official technical documentation should be available whenever possible.
