Description

DPSM-1 in aircraft airspeed measurement systems

The DPSM-1 is an aircraft indicated airspeed sensor used to measure flight speed relative to the surrounding air mass. It works as part of the air data measurement chain and provides information for onboard indication and recording equipment. In aircraft operation, the DPSM-1 is not a standalone display instrument. It is a sensor that converts aerodynamic pressure information into an electrical signal used by flight instruments, onboard monitoring systems and flight parameter recording equipment.

Airspeed measurement function of DPSM-1

The main function of the DPSM-1 is to measure indicated airspeed. The sensor receives pressure from the incoming airflow through the aircraft air data system and converts this pressure into a signal corresponding to flight speed. This value is important for pilot indication, flight regime control, operation monitoring and post-flight analysis. If the sensor or pressure line gives incorrect data, the problem may show up as wrong airspeed indication, inaccurate recorded parameters or disagreement between flight data channels.

DPSM-1 in the air data chain

The DPSM-1 works with the aircraft air pressure system, where dynamic and static pressure information is used to determine speed-related parameters. Its output is transmitted to onboard electrical circuits for further use by indicators or recording systems. Because the sensor depends on both pressure input and electrical output, troubleshooting should not be limited to the unit itself. Pressure lines, fittings, contamination, leaks, wiring, connectors and the connected recording equipment should also be checked.

DPSM-1 in flight data recording systems

Besides cockpit indication, the DPSM-1 may be used in onboard parameter registration systems. In this role, the sensor provides an airspeed-related signal to flight data acquisition or recording equipment. This allows the aircraft operator to record airspeed as part of the flight parameter set. Such data is used after flight for technical monitoring, analysis of aircraft operation and investigation of abnormal events. Correct calibration and signal conversion are important because recorded airspeed is only useful when the full measurement chain is serviceable.

Aircraft application of the DPSM-1 sensor

The DPSM-1 is installed on Mi-8 series helicopters, including Mi-171E applications, and on training aircraft such as Yak-18T Series 36. The exact installation point and connected equipment depend on the aircraft type and configuration. On helicopters, the sensor may be part of the airspeed indication and flight data registration system. On training aircraft, it supports airspeed measurement and recording functions required for operation and training use. Applicability should always be checked against the aircraft equipment list and maintenance documentation.

Supply and inspection of DPSM-1

For procurement or replacement, the full designation DPSM-1 / ДПСМ-1 should be specified. Since the sensor is part of the air data and recording chain, external condition alone is not enough to confirm serviceability. Before installation, the unit should be checked for correct marking, housing condition, pressure port condition, connector integrity, electrical output and compatibility with the target aircraft system. Product passport, acceptance documents or official technical documentation should be confirmed where available.
