Signal Annunciator
Available on back-order
The TS-5M-2 is an aircraft light-signalling annunciator with a yellow filter. It is used to display illuminated text information about the condition of aircraft systems, units and onboard equipment. The annunciator is installed on cockpit instrument panels, control consoles and crew workstations. Its purpose is to give the crew a clearly visible yellow caution message when the connected system requires attention, monitoring or corrective action.
The TS-5M-2 illuminates a text inscription after receiving a signal from the corresponding aircraft system. Yellow indication is normally used for caution, warning or abnormal-condition messages that require crew awareness but are not always immediate emergency signals. The exact meaning depends on the inscription and the aircraft warning logic. The annunciator itself does not detect the fault or system condition. It only displays the command received from the connected electrical circuit.
The annunciator works as part of the aircraft cockpit warning and indication system. It may be installed on the central instrument panel, overhead panel, side consoles, navigator panel, flight engineer panel or other crew control boards. On aircraft and helicopters with many monitored systems, TS-5M annunciators are often grouped into light-signalling blocks or matrices. This allows the crew to monitor several system states in one visible panel area.
The index “2” in the designation TS-5M-2 indicates the yellow filter version. The light source is usually the SM 28-1.4-1 miniature aircraft lamp. When the lamp is energized, it illuminates the inscription through the yellow filter, forming a readable caution message. During maintenance, the lamp, contacts, filter, inscription plate, housing and mounting condition should be checked. A weak lamp, damaged filter or poor contact can make the annunciator difficult to read.
The TS-5M-2 may be used in cockpit systems with different brightness levels for day and night operation. Day-mode brightness is listed in the range of 1000 to 3600 cd/m² depending on the applicable technical standard and execution. Night-mode brightness is typically 25–75 cd/m². This difference is important because a warning light that is suitable in daylight can be too bright at night and disturb cockpit visibility.
The TS-5M series includes several color versions for different signal meanings. TS-5M-1 is red, TS-5M-2 is yellow, TS-5M-3 is green, TS-5M-4 is white and TS-5M-5 is blue. The color must match the aircraft documentation and the assigned system message. A yellow TS-5M-2 should not be replaced by another color version unless the aircraft documentation specifically allows it.
The TS-5M-2 is used in aircraft and helicopters of Soviet and Russian design, including Mi-8-type helicopters and other aircraft depending on cockpit configuration. It may be installed in warning panels, caution panels, system status displays and control boards for fuel, hydraulic, electrical, fire-protection and other onboard systems. Exact inscriptions, quantity and mounting positions depend on the aircraft type, modification and equipment layout.
For procurement, the unit should be specified as TS-5M-2 / ТС-5М-2, with the required inscription, lamp type and brightness version confirmed where applicable. If the part is being ordered as a replacement, a photo of the existing annunciator or exact inscription text is useful. Before installation, the unit should be checked for lamp operation, brightness, filter condition, inscription readability, contact condition, housing integrity and mounting compatibility.
