The TR-60 is an aircraft adjustable transformer used to regulate the brightness of built-in lighting on cockpit panels, instruments and control consoles. It operates in aircraft AC electrical systems and supplies low-voltage output to incandescent lighting circuits. The unit is used on airplanes and helicopters where the crew needs controlled illumination of instruments, panel markings, control labels and cockpit equipment during day, night and low-light operation.
The main task of the TR-60 is to change the voltage supplied to built-in lighting lamps. By switching output steps, the system changes lamp brightness from low illumination to maximum brightness. This allows the crew to adjust cockpit lighting according to external lighting conditions and flight mode. The transformer is normally used together with a multi-position rotary switch or aircraft lighting control circuit.
The TR-60 provides stepwise voltage regulation. In a typical lighting-control circuit, the output may include an off position and several voltage steps, for example approximately 2.2 V, 3.1 V, 4.1 V, 5.1 V and 6.0 V at the maximum step. The last step provides the highest lamp brightness and may support load current up to 10 A. Exact switching layout and terminal assignment should be checked by the aircraft wiring diagram.
The transformer is used in circuits of built-in cockpit lighting, including illuminated instruments, control panels, console markings and signal panels. It may supply red or white internal lighting groups depending on the aircraft layout. On aircraft with several lighting groups, the TR-60 can be installed near the panel, behind cockpit consoles or inside electrical distribution / relay boxes feeding the lighting circuits.
The TR-60 is used on Soviet and Russian-designed aircraft and helicopters, including Mi-8, Ka-32, An-24, An-26, An-74, An-124, Il-76, Yak-42 and other types depending on configuration. The exact installation location depends on aircraft type and modification. It may be placed behind cockpit panels, inside control consoles, in electrical distribution boxes, underfloor equipment areas or behind-cabin avionics / electrical compartments.
The TR-60 is designed for the aircraft 115 V AC, 400 Hz power network. It must not be connected to a household 220 V / 50 Hz power supply. The lower industrial frequency is not suitable for this aviation transformer and may cause magnetic core saturation, overheating and winding damage. For bench testing, a proper 115 V / 400 Hz aviation power source or approved frequency converter is required.
The TR-60 is a compact aviation transformer built for continuous operation under vibration, pressure changes and temperature variation typical of aircraft service. The unit is usually made in a protected metal housing, with windings impregnated or protected to improve resistance to vibration and environmental effects. Connection may be made through a terminal block or fixed leads, depending on the specific execution.
